Thanks Steve,,A very informative article to say the least,,Its a shame that the powers to be at DC do not and still will not listen to us(the consumers) and have again balked at our want for a TRUE crew cab and not a another lame attempt at one,,I'm not knocking my Quad(98 version)but, why spend the change for the same exact thing, just a little fancier???,,Looks like I'll keep her and the title and finish the job I started,,Hey DC are ya listening---full crewcab at a later date-Dedicated Cummins truck owners check later also... . Man what a shame... ... Andy

P. S. -Our Dodge connection has told us that the Hemi option has been shelved for now,got him checking on it

From Steve's article:

Transfer case options are all new. You have the choice of the NV271 that comes with the ST package which is manually shifted or the NV273 that comes with the SLT package which is push button electrically shifted. Both transfer cases have a 2. 72 low range ratio.

Does this mean if you buy a top-of-the-line SLT with all the bells and whistles, that you can only get the electrically shifted transfer case? I'd rather pull a lever, myself.

I am guessing the HD trucks will come with 16" tires. As of now there is nothing that I know of in a 17" tire with an acceptible weight rating for 3/4 or 1T trucks. It is hard to tell from the pictures but I would say those look like 16s. The 1/2T rig can get away with running the 17 and 20 inchers because of lighter weight.

And let's be realistic

If you buy a truck with these narrow profile 17 & 20" wheels - well you need a truck like a boar needs tits!

I believe DC has said 17" According to the thread started by KCJackson the 3500 DRW has 235 80 17 tires. Not exactly low profile. Enough to haul all your boars and then some. Anybody ever look at the front tires on dump trucks, cement mixers and others? 65 series.

Enough with this Tire Crap

How would you like to be in the tire business today and have to stock all these ADDITIONAL sizes for no real reason at all! We all pay for this when we buy tires because they pass on that extra loss of revenue to us - enough already we don't need any additional stupid tires - unless we're going to the moon.

Naa, what they want is an exclusive bead/tire size. Oh you have a late model dodge(2001. 5), that is too bad our license to manufacture/distribute those tires ran out. It may be cheaper to buy the newest truck so you can get replacement tires. Trust me, "I am sure if you upgrade to the newest product all your problems will go away. "

If you believe me you are just like the rest of us that keep buying software from Microsoft and AutoDesk! :D

That quote I made came directly from tech support at AutoDesk!

what the...?

First, excellent article Steve. Did I read that right about the fuel/lift pump location?

"The lift/supply pump is located on the side of the motor right next to the fuel filter and is an all new design supplied by Federal-Mogul. "

If so... STRIKE ONE! We dont need a new design, just move it to where it should be in the first place.

I hope sales are high and they perform well. Is their one in my future, not for a while...

Steve I just got my new Truck Trend Mag. They had a wroteup on the new truck. Your did a much better job then Truck Trend.

Let me try this again without all of the spelling errors. Steve you did a great writeup compared to Truck Trend.

Just a little more info on the American Axles discussed earlier in this topic. The following is from the director of marketing from AAM axles. These axles are actually supposed to be somewhat stronger that the Dana's and AAM has been around for a long time. (incidentally - I did order a brand spanking new 2003 1 ton with duallies and every factory option but the front air dam today. ) Heh Heh Heh, just can't wait for it to get here.

Steve H.

Mr. Hollingshead,

Thank you for your interest in American Axle & Manufacturing (AAM). You are

correct, AAM will be supplying the front and rear axles for the redesignd

Dodge Ram Pickup 2500 and 3500 series. The Axles in these vehicles will be

available with AAM's Tracrite GT limited slip differential. The attached

link to our web site describes the features of this differential.

Please let me know if you have any other questions, and thanks again for

your interest in AAM.
