Anyone buying this stuff online? I am having trouble finding it in the city here and would like to get it shipped to my door instead. Looking for the Delvac syntetic.

I was running Delvac1, (which can be hard to find) until I read that "Mobile1 Truck & SUV" is Delvac1 rebadged. So I now use that. It carries the same ratings etc... & it is readily available at Walmart (under 5 bucks a qt. ) or at discount auto parts houses, which is a little cheaper than I paid for delvac1.

Elite 1,

Are you sure about Mobil 1 T&SUV being rebadged Mobil Delvac 1? I, too, have heard that same rumor. Sure would like to believe it. However, I have, also, heard that there is a difference. T&SUV has a rating of CI-4 & Delvac ! has a CI-4+ rating.

Just not sure which rumor is right & if there is a difference, it may not be much of one.

The Walmart's, around here, have been out of the larger bottles of M1-T&SUV since Katrina hit. Aparently, the refinery was damaged & hurt their production capacity.

Wal-Marts around here in New York are not carrying it anymore. In fact the Mobil 1 Truck & SUV is hard to find anywhere. You can also try any CAT dealership. The CAT synthetic 5W-40 oil is rebadged Delvac-1.

Have any of you ever tried Schaeffer's Oils?

I've been reading a lot about their 7000 semi-synthetic 15-40 & their new 9000 fully synthetic 5-40, on the bob is the oil guy.com website.

You never read anything bad about their products. They are very highly thought of with great base stocks & excellent, robust additive packages.

They seem to be quite popular in the Midwest.

Joe, I am not 100% sure that it is re-badged Delvac1, but I have read this info on various sites. I just picked some up a few days ago at Kragen auto parts, which is the same parent company as Schucks & Checker, I have also bought it at Walmart in the past. Here is the Mobile1 truck & suv info, from the corp. website (note the properties):

Here are the spec's & properties of Delvac (they are the same as Mobil1 truck & suv) http://www.mobil.com/USA-English/Lubes/PDS/GLXXENCVLMOMobil_Delvac_1_5W-40.asp

Elite 1,

I'm not sure that T&SUV is not rebadged Delvac 1. I've heard both sides of the story & don't know the answer, yet.

Comparing the two websites, it looks like the T&SUV is designed to meet the needs of the smaller, lighter-duty diesel engines that are found in today's pick-ups.

The Delvac 1 seems to be designed to be sold to the heavy-duty large diesel engine market.

The comparisons look very similar except for the CI-4(PLUS) rating that the Delvac 1 has. The T&SUV does not carry that rating. Just CI-4.

Now, that doesn't mean that Mobil isn't putting the Delvac 1 into T&SUV bottles & just not mentioning the PLUS rating. It may be a marketing ploy, by them. If true, there must be a good reason for doing it. I would think you would want the general public to know your oils highest rating.

I think this says it all:

*Mobil 1 Truck & SUV

SAE Grade 5W-40

Viscosity, ASTM D 445

cSt @ 40ºC 102

cSt @ 100ºC 14. 8

Viscosity Index, ASTM D 2270 151

Sulfated Ash, wt%, ASTM D 874 1. 35

Total Base #, mg KOH/g, ASTM D 2896 12

Pour Point, ºC, ASTM D 97 -45

Flash Point, ºC, ASTM D 92 226

Density @ 15ºC kg/l, ASTM D 4052 0. 854

It's the same stuff!

On another note, I have read on bob is the oil guy.com website that some UOA's(used oil analysis) have shown higher wear metal levels than some people are happy with (Delvac 1, T&SUV).

Others have had excellent results with the Mobil products. One member, Doug Hillary, from Australia, owns a fleet of over-the-road trucks & studies everything about the trucks & making them more economical to operate. He's studied oils, extensively & found Delvac 1 to be the best. He uses it exclusively, along with "spinner-type" bypass filters & is able to run the oils for very long, extended oil change intervals. He has first hand experience with facts to back his opinions up. Hard to argue with that.

I just read something interesting. One of the premier oil testing labs is Blackstone Labs. One of the BITOG members talked to the testing tech's. & none of them are using synthetics. They aren't that impressed with them. They liked the Chevron Delo-400, 15-40 the best, for normal usage. I found that to be very interesting, as these guys see this stuff on a daily basis & can see trends.

Elite 1,

I agree, the two breakdowns appear to be similar. However, I can't explain the difference in the two ratings, CI-4 & CI-4 PLUS.

My guess is that they ARE the same & Mobil, in their infinate wisdom, finds it advantageous to keep them separate. I've heard the Delvac 1 is quite a bit more expensive.

Maybe they can make more Delvac 1 than they can sell at the higher price & decided to rebadge it in another name, with not as high a rating, & sell it at a lower price.

I've never heard of Mobil explaining the difference & none of their employees or Rep's seem to want to explain it. They're keeping that information secure. So, we're left to guess.

No matter what, they both seem to be good products.

I read someplace that it would cost Mobil a lot of $$ to get the CI4 PLUS rating attached to the T&SUV oil, so they did not bother, since it is marketed for the smaller diesel trucks...

Just when I started using it, Walmart quit carrying it... go figure. I found 4 5-qt jugs at a Walmart in the inner city and bought them all... figure it can't go bad anytime soon... .

If anyone knows where it is readily available, please let us know... thanks
