2008 Model Options

I took delivery of my 2008 Mega Cab on Oct. 3rd. It is a 2500 4X4 with

68 Rfe auto, 3. 73 rear,Laramie "H" pkg,SRW. I ordered through a local

dealer and got 20/40/20 leather seats and they are extremely comfor-

table; much better than the two F-250'a I had driven before. The only

thing that was wrong with my order was that it did not come with the

extendable tow mirrors with intergrated signal lights as ordered. The

dealer ordered them and they were installed in 4 days... . took about

three hours to run wiring to each mirror as it didn't come with the

correct wiring harness either... . I had started out trying to get in a

2007. 5 truck, but after waiting 17 weeks for it to arrive and then

having almost all my specs wrong, I opted for the 08 and wound up

paying $500 dollars less for the later model... I figured I'm at least

$3,000 better off considering the gain in not taking the depreciation

on the end of year 07 model.

This has been an interesting thread. We are planning on buying a new 3500 next year. All of the trucks we've seen on dealer lots have the bench front seat & 3. 73 gear ratios. We want the leather buckets & 4. 10 gears for serious towing. I've only looked at a Laramie Quad Cab on the build your own. I've had no trouble getting the combinations we want.

Rob, if you would go to the "customer" Official Dodge Site - New Autos, Trucks, Minivans, SUVs, Cars, Wagons website and click on build your own rather than go thru your dealership order site, you would immediately see what I am talking about regarding the 4. 10 and the bucket seats. REMEMBER, we are talking about a 4X2 dually quad cab..... NOT a 4X4 or a Mega cab. They do have different options as to seating. I can get the seats I want but not on a 4X2, only a 4X4 or a Mega cab. Hey Bruiser Bob, the extendable tow mirros are a "dealer installed" option. The do not order them factory installed but the dealer does them. My dealer quoted me $425. 00 installed. I have never seen any but in a picture. Was not aware they had the turn signal indicator. The electric movable part and the heater part should have fit right with your factory mirror wiring. Bet they are really nice. How large is the bottom convex part???? Newt, I do not know where you are located, but I assume the Dodge build your own site is national. I just tried again as I do almost daily and unless you are going with a single rear wheel or a mega cab, you can not get the seat 40/20/40 with the H pkg on a 4X2 dually long bed. I would be happy to post on here a print from the "build your own" sheet if someone can tell me how to get it on here. Then maybe you guys can see what I have been referring to all along.

I know the site, and like I said earlier that site does have some shortcomings, however, I built a 4x2 Laramie quad cab and it is requiring me to choose the buckets. It allows for the bench in the SLT 4x2 and in the Laramie 4x4. I'm not sure I'll be able to get an answer from anyone on the Chrysler side, but I'll try. They've limited certain combinations (which didn't make any sense) before such as the 32 gallon gas tank on a 1500 if you selected the sunroof. The 3. 73 would still be standard with the Cummins.

Rob, you mentioning the fuel capacity brings another question to my mind. If the 4500 and 5500 cab and chassis have a large fuel tank, why does the 3500 pick up not have a larger tank? Surely the "powers that be" know the 3500 pickup is used for more than going to the grocery store and definitely IMHO should have at least a 45 to 55 gallon fuel tank. If the aftermarket folks advertize a larger fuel tank, you know there has to be room for it.

The 52 gallon tank on the 35/45and 5500 is located were the spare tire is on the non-chassis cab trucks, plus the frame is totally different. I can't tell you that there is not room for a larger fuel tank on the non-chassis cab trucks, and I do agree it would be nice, however, even pulling 9,000lbs w/ a 4 speed auto I drove over 400 miles on a tank of fuel last weakend. I'm sure you'd probably need to get something to drink or relieve yourself befor it does. It's just a matter of demand. If it would sell another 15,000 trucks they would probably make it an option.

New 08 on order

Hi all,

I just ordered a new 08 Laramie 2500 and I could have had either the buckets or the 40-20-40 seats providing I went with the 68rfe instead of the manual trans. The bucket seats also come with the floor console and that would interfere with the shifter.

I also had a few discrepancies on the "Build Your Own" site, although whenever I would log out and start over they would seem to be more consistent. Too many people on it at one time maybe?

Anyway,through all of that I was still able to get the 3. 73 gearing. It was explained to me that the 3. 73 does come up unavailable as an "option" because it is what the vehicle comes standard with.

I chose that ratio, because with the double overdrive or 6th gear being . 625, the engine would be turning only 1700 rpm at about 69 mph. Even with the new 3. 42 gears in the six speed manual at the same 1700 rpm you'd be going about five miles per hour slower. For me, that's going to be just fine.

Gee, with those gears and a 52 gallon tank... . wouldn't you love that?

I have noticed that the Canadain web site seems to be more accurate ( Dodge. ca - Cars Trucks Minivans SUVs in Canada - Home) it's just the price that sucks ! They must still think the Canadian $ is worth less than the USD.
