Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) OOPs

Well I did it, ran out of fuel, gauge said I had 1/8th of a tank, I was headed to the station when, blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Anyway 5 gallons and five bumps later still no start. Ended up cracking Injector lines 1,3 and 4 to get it to start. Was sweating it there a bit, figured my Inj pump was toast.



Has anyone had their gauge get worse as far as accuracy goes? Mine has been down almost to the red before with no problems now, when its still touching the white of the 1/8th mark I run out of fuel, makes me wonder.

That's why I *ALWAYS* set the tripmeter when I fill up. Not only can I figure mpg, but I know when to fill up, whether the gauge is working right or not.



I dunno if these gauges get worse over time. Sorry i can't help-- I would just say to not run it down that low. I am also a hypocrite since I am down near 1/8th as I write this... .

Well, I can't tell you wether this is common problem or not. But I can say what my two trucks do. My wifes is opposite of mine. Her's will say empty (on guage) but when you fill it up it only takes 27 gallons to do it. Where as when my 12v is at the same point on the guage, Trust me it's out. At the 1/8 tank mark it takes 33 1/2 gallons to fill it up. So I too am a tripometer person. I know exactly how far my 12v can go. Where as on the other hand I told the wife that when she hits 1/8 mark and the warning light comes on to find fuel immediatly. She doesnt need to know she still has 10 gallons to go. I would rather her fill up right then that push it AT ALL...

I've heard they were a common failure, I also reset my tripometer everytime, plus reset my overhead tripometer, and I figure mileage from the odometer. A couple of fillups ago I started having a problem with the tank not wanting to take fuel at full throttle on the pump. Ran a rubber hose down to push the rollover ball back down, maybe I pushed too hard. OHwell at least it doesn't take 30 minutes to fill up my truck. I'm think'n I broke something, I used to be the same way never put in more than about 29 gallons, last two fillups have been around 34 gallons. I guess its 1/4 tank fillup time.
