I think I may just have dusted my VP44. Yesterday, I was doing a favor for a business friend and ended up in central LA. There was some sort of local fiesta going on and I got trapped in traffic. While idling through the mess I glanced over to my fuel pressure gauge and it was running between 3-5 PSI and if I gave it any pedal it dropped to 3 PSI. I was about 25 miles from home so I stayed on side streets and idled all the way back. I know that low pressure to the VP is a death sentence and fortunately I was able to get a new LP which solved that problem and the truck is running fine but I'm thinking I might as well order a VP. Any thoughts or comments are greatly appreciated...Thanks

Don't worry about your current VP-44 until you have something to worry about. I changed a lift pump for my neighbor who has a '99 and he had been running with a failed lift pump for months and thousands of miles. Sure. You may end up with a problem. His truck continues to run just fine. My gut tells me that you will be fine also.

I agree. I have 316k on my original VP with 5 lift pumps, some I drove lotsa miles to get home. The best thing you can do for your VP is run on the top half of your fuel tank. Low fuel means hot fuel and hot VP.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback. I've babied this truck since August 1998 and as many little glitches as it has had, I still love this old truck

make sure that you get new fuel filter/s ASAP and then look at pressure. Within the last 3 months I had Low pressure issues and it was just filters (bad load of fuel with water that sticks in the paper media of my pre-filter on the frame mount) even though it has a drain port on it the filter had a lot of water in it still.

Absolutely... I replaced the fuel filters a couple days before this happened and that caught me off guard in trusting everything to be okay after the filter change. My bad. I ditched the OEM filter setup many years back and installed Glaciers' dual manifold unit and the FRRP. Lesson learned, check the gauge thanks GT.
