Went to local Toyota dealership today and looked at and test drove a 2001 2500 4wd Cummins. It was a QC with a Fiberglass Leer cap, Line-X liner, SLT/Laramie trim (or so it said on c pillar). Had PW,PDL, fold-out trailer mirrors, aftermarket AM/FM CD, cloth interior, 50% BFG AT KO 285 tires on stock aluminum wheels. Truck was automatic

Exterior looked good with no obvious damage, etc.

Interior was clean, not worn

Tires were wore evenly

Chassis was clean/ black spray painted (even tailpipe)

Truck seemed to pull to right

Mileage was almost 59k

Asking price was $22,500, "rock bottom" was $20,995.

I got info off door jam and listing below:

VIN: 3B7KF23691G765711

MDH: 022801

TRM: R1C3

QUESTIONS:

1) Any way to tell what rear end ratio?

2) Didnt see any mirror controls, were the 2001 fold out mirrors manual?

3) Does this sound like a good price?

4) Any other things to look for?

Thanks

The black spray paint on the frame and tailpipe sounds like someone is trying to hide something. Check extra good, sounds like it might have been in an accident. Check front tires for air pressure, if they are both the same, then the truck needs something. I would be very carefull with it.

I checked other used cars/trucks and they were all that way. When I used to have a detail shop and we detailed cars for them that is one thing they wanted done.

They had paperwork from their body shop (dont know how reliable that is) where they found no frame damage, suspension damage or any signs of any accidents.

Any other info, opinions

Also, ANY way to know what rear end ratio is???

I don't know about the 01s but my 97 has the axle ratio on a decal under the hood, behind the grill near the latch.

If there is no sticker under the hood, then check in the glove box. They started to put that sticker in there a few years ago. That sticker also has all of the build codes on it.

you can call any dealership and provide them with the VIN. they can check what gear ratio it came with stock.

Also, if you want to craw underneath it and record the codes on the diff cover tag, you can PM me and I can tell you what ratio and if locking diff or not.
