Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Milage

Okay, as fuel prices rise to an all time high I need to look for ways to cut costs. I've already done all the "normal" things that are done to maximize fuel economy, and now I'm considering new injectors since I've almost got 200k miles on the stock ones. Let me just say that I am perfectly happy with the power my truck is making, I drive it empty to and from work, and I don't tow anything. I don't need more power or speed, I need fuel economy.

I thought I read on this board a long time ago that DD2's were good for improving fuel mileage and maintaining or slightly improving power. I've tried to do a search on the subject and can't seem to find that thread anymore, so I'm going to re-hash the subject.

I contacted Diesel Dynamics years ago regarding the DD2's, and they said then that if I didn't change my driving habits, I could see a measurable improvement in mileage, like in the order of 2-3 mpg. Is that true? Can anyone here that has used DD2's tell me if that's realistic or not?

I put mine in and I haven't seen an improvement but I'm still playing with them, the DD2's and the drag comp are pretty awesome. The guy I got these from put in Mach 4's and had a thread recently about his improved mileage.

Mileage Thread

If you don't play with the power, you should see better mileage. I gained about 1mpg going to the 370s, from the old stockers. All told with the current fuel mods, I've gained 1. 5mpg. Went from a best of 16, to 17. 5. Put a flatbed on the truck and lost 2.

I have got DDII and a set of Don's F 1. 5 Personaly i like Don's the best... About the same power and less EGT... . Seam to run smother and I idel is at it best..... Miles to the gallon will be better with either one,,,,If you can watch your foot... Been there done that... ... The 1. 5 the last time i checked them got 21. 875 miles to the gallon that was empty running 65-70 MPH

Price was the reason I didn't suggest the DD or EDM injectors. They are better, but you do have to pay quite more. Unless you can find a used to here in the classifieds.

I'd love a set of Stage 4 EDMs myself. :D

FWIW - Last time I email Don (a few months ago) he was not offering any injectors for the 12 valves.

You will not pick up 2-3 MPG's going to DD2's. You may pick up a little mileage but that would be more from replacing a tired injector with a new one than from the design of the injector itself.

Yea, I figured 2-3 mpg was being optimistic at best, but I was really expecting to see more along the lines of a solid 1-1. 5 mpg improvement. I really won't have any problem staying off of the accelerator if I know that it's going to cost me fuel economy.

So, how do I tell if I have a bad injector? I usually dump some fuel injector cleaner in every 5 or 6 tankfuls, just to try to keep things clean and running properly. I honestly don't think I have a bad injector, because I'm getting anywhere from 20 to a little over 21 mpg now, which seems to be pretty good from what I can gather from what others are getting. When I drove real conservatively, I could get into the 22-23 mpg range, but that really was just going too slow to be practical, but if it comes to that then that's what I'll have to do again.

I was just hoping to find a way to get a little more mileage out of the truck. I guess I'll have to hear more opinions before I decide whether I want to try these or not. If I can't find a way to make this truck a little more economical to drive, then I'm going to have to start driving the wife's car to work and park the truck :{

I am running a set of Lenny's (Dynomite Diesel in Wash. ) stage 3's and love them. They are very clean burning. I have picked up a solid 1. 5 to 2 mpg.

They are reasonably priced for EDM's. I am one of the first to try the 3's vs the 4's that most are running.

Contact info for Dynomite Diesel

Hmmm, sounds good. Can you tell me how to contact Dynomite Diesel? Do they have a website so I can look at what they have to offer, or do I need to call them?

Thanks!

Thanks for the number Joe. Sorry I didn't reply sooner, but some things came up and got in the way.

As it turns out, I got into a carpool with a bunch of other guys at work, so I have a little time before I "need" to get more fuel efficient injectors.
