Well sadly I'm hoping to sell/trade my stack system soon and go back to a single pipe out the back.



I miss the pure obnoxiousness of a straightpipe out the back!Oo.



B/c of my BOMBing however I'm going to a 4" system to try and keep EGT's in check.



I'm looking at bigexhaust.com's site and they have a mufflerless system turbo-to-tailpipe for $290+shipping.



Anybody have any experience with this business?

I ordered A complete system from them,and it was here in about

7 days @ about $58. oo frt. or less? Brought to my door by UPS

I did not order the band clamps from them and had to go to a truck supply to buy the clamps,I did not want to use the kind

that crimp the pipe,The kit fit up to the rig really well, it took more

time to remove the old one than the install. good luck GWD

I have had their 5"/no muff system on for about a month or so. Really like it. Was here in 2 days. It was shipped from Winterset, Ia. UPS dinged up some of the ends, aside from that, it installed fairly easily. Used band clamps that I got from Freightliner.



Friday I bought a resonator for it to help tame it a little. If you hit the right rpm or load on the engine, the resonance is a little much for my ears.



Haven't installed it yet, but stuck it on the tailpipe for a minute when I was waiting for it to warm up so I could change the oil. It quieted it down only slightly, but makes it a deeper tone that sounds really good. Will see how it turns out.

I've had my 5 inch Big Exhaust.com system for 2 months and love it. I started out straight piped and ended up with a small 18 inch resonator to kill the drone somewhat. I've lost count of the people that pull up beside me pointing and mouthing the words thats F#@$*&^ huge.

Well if I can get someone to buy my stack system then I plan on getting a complete kit from BigExhaust.com



Tell me would 5" be louder than 4" I've heard that 5" isn't as loud as 4"

Since you're gonna' change I've been thinking about something different that you could try.



How about collecting the exhaust into a 5" input with five one inch output tubes coming out of it. Make each of the one inch tubes about five feet longer than the one next to it by bending them around and around like a trumpet. Each pipe would be longer (or shorter) than all the other ones. They can be routed all around under the truck in any way that makes it easy to hang them. Have itall exit the truck out the back through five one inch tailpipes. You could gather them together to make it look like a caliopy or a honeycomb.



If you tune it right you might get the truck to sound like a . 50 cal machine gun.

It doesn't work that way. It would be much more restrictive then a 3" system. You would need 4 - 2. 5" pipes to equal the area of one 5" pipe. Using the formular for the area of circle these are the figures you will come up with:



3" pipe - 7. 06" squared

4" pipe - 12. 6" squared

5" pipe - 19. 6" squared

5 - 1" pipes - 3. 92" squared total

4 - 2. 5" pipes - 19. 6" squared total

no, the 5" straight piped is definately louder than a 4" straight pipe.

I have had the BE 4" system on mine for a while now. I'm happy with it now that it is on bit didn't enjoy my experience with BE.



The install was find, it took some cutting and fitting to get the tail pipe to fit similar to the stock setup.



IF you happen to have a problem beware, their customer service SUCKS

I have to agree with that. They are losing my vote. They sent me the wrong muffler and now are trying to say that diesel's need the backpressure of a baffled mufller to run right. When I asked them why they sold straight pipe kits, he couldn't give me an answer. I hate to have to do it, but I guess I will have to dispute the payment

Some related info you might be interested in is in the latest issue of the TRD issue 41 on page 23 regarding exhaust improvements. The info goes over the loss of performance of going to 5 inch if you don't have at least 400 RWHP, and that 5 inch doesn't help any until you get to a 500 hp level. Might be some good reading.

My truck lost no performance with my 5 inch system and seemed to actually have improved on fuel mileage. It may not help over the 4 inch but looks and sounds great. Fits perfect. No complaints here. I didn't order BE's muffler I picked up a short straight through one that RHarvey had available. I would probably buy from Rip if I was doing over again simply because of his help in getting me a comp and his willingness to help his customers and pricing.

I know I picked up an honest 2 mpg on the highway at 75-80 mph. I used to have to keep the truck right at 65 to get 18 mpg. Now I am able to run at 75 without even worrying and still get 18 mpg. I haven't had a chance to run a full tank out @ 65 to see if there are any improvements at that speed
