Maybe we should just shift into 4hi before we get stuck... ... it makes it much more interesting to get out!

Seriously, you should be rolling to shift into 4hi and stopped for 4low... like burnin oil said read your owner's manual.

I have the stick with the stick and i love it. I had ownered a 98' with the electric and the only problem was the vacuum line to the axle disconnect got cut and ripped off alot(that poor truck lived in the mud!) I don't think we have those problems with the 3rd gen... no axle disconnect.

I can't believe they force you to get the electric with the megacab!

From the factory, my electric transfer case was hard to engage, and progressively got worse. After a trip to the dealer, they could find no problem. It worked every time for them, so I thought it was just me. However, it soon got to the place it wouldn't even go in 4lo. I took it back to the dealer, and they replaced the whole transfer case under warranty. Since then, it shifts flawlessly, moving or not, and always within 1-2 seconds. There is no grinding, no hesitation, and no problems.

I would rather have had the manual, but couldn't get it with laramie "h"; however, since having the case replaced, I couldn't be happier. If yours is experiencing delayed engagement, likely you've got a problem. ... remember, you need to use it frequently enough to keep it functioning properly too! Thanks, Eric

Does anyone know if you can convert an electric transfer case to a manual? I am getting a MC this summer and want the manual, but they only offer the MC with an electronic T-case.

I would bet not since the electric is a NP273 and the manual is a NP271. I have the electric in mine because I couldn't get it with a manual. I have had no issues with it engaging, it seems instantaneous in mine. The owner's manual I got said that you could shift into 4wd @ any sane speed and the truck is supposed to be moving between 0-5 mph to go to low range. Just kick the trans to neutral and shift, there is no grinding or anything else. With it moving SLOWLY,. it helps to get it to drop into gear

This has been my experience as well. Definetly the best electronic system I have dealt with to date.

I had to get the electronic because the manual doesn't work with the MegaCabs (AC ducting). Even with the manual, however, aren't you dependent on electronics/vacuum with the hub engagement system? Seems like either system doesn't give you the peace of mind that the old NP205 and manual hubs give.

In the 3rd gens, there are no disconnects in the frontend, it is locked and turning full-time. the selection of 4wd is totally in the t-case.

Well... that sounds good then. Now I really wish I could get the manual shift!

I had a company blazer, 1997 model with electronic 4wd. Left me stranded twice, once in a place right at dark near where the deliverance people live. Never again will I have electronic 4WD. Both times the fix was over 1K. Under warranty thank goodness.
