I like the thought of the Optima design batteries.
I went to the optima site and looked at the batteries, and for my use
I am thinking on the yellow top dual use, I like the thought of limited
inverter use and limited additional lighting without having to run
the engine to keep the bats charged, yes I realize you take a slight
cca hit of about 50 cca per battery but still leaving 1500 cca with the 2
installed.
The extended ability to draw down the batteries with low loads is very
attractive to me. Start only bats I admit are best if thats the only thing you
use them for but if you want run some 12 v floods for 2-3 hours or run a few intermitant tools off an inverter while the lights are on I know it will run down
start only bats pretty quick. Yes separate batteries just for this would be
best. But location, wiring, and charging circuits would be a MAJOR pain
to set up and I don't feel my use justifies it. I planned on running some
well protected # 2 wire to the back of my flat bed tool box to house the inverter and connections to run my additional loads and to provide a
point to jump other vehicals from. I have a couple of new military
connectors (HEAVY DUTY) to use. I also want to run a warning strobe
or two (Yellow) pretty low drain, but over a few hours... when I'm working
near traffic.
Whats your opinion of the yellow tops for my application on an
03 HO 4X4 3500 SRW 6 SP.
