I've run optima batteries in my offroad trucks due to the extreme angles involved. I, along with all of my friends that run them have all found one main problem. They seem to discharge when they sit. A few years ago, I had an optima on my '94 Nissan car and a wal mart everstart on my '79 chevy pickup. Both vehicles were parked in the barn with the battery cables disconnected for 8 months while I was overseas. When I came home and re-connected the cables, the old 350 v8 started and the 4 cylinder nissan would barely turn. Both batteries were around the same age. Fast forward to present. All of my friends run optimas on their trail rigs that don't get run more than a couple times a month. They have all had to install trickle chargers to keep the optima's from going dead from sitting after a couple weeks. That said, I drive my pickup about as much as you drive yours... about 5K miles per year. For me, that means that I only drive it a little on weekends. I'm running standard 1000 amp discount batteries that were in the truck when I bought it. They are about 3 years old as this month. I have yet to have any problems.
