I put one of those in my Oliver 88 diesel tractor 7 yrs ago. I would have to say that without a doubt it is the best battery I have ever owned.

I put one in my Kubota in 1995 and the tractor saw little use between 1996-2000 when i was overseas, it still worked up through 2003 when i final has to replace it.

Have an Optima in my 5th wheel trailer, but its blue. The best battery I have ever owned. They stay up a long time stored. Will certainly change to red tops in my 04. 5 when the time comes. No mess and well worth the additional cost.

Likes: just about everything. Truck cranks great, even at -10*. No corrosion problem. Great warranty. Hold a charge forever. Long life.

Dislikes: Almost none. They're pretty pricey, but for what you get its certainly fair.

From now on, all my vehicles will get Optimas when its time for a change.

I put a red top in the wife's vette [right behind the drivers seat] being sealed I thought it would be safer, I liked it so much I put yellow tops in my semi. When the Dodge needs them I'll put them in it too. I've heard the type 31's will fit but haven't measured it yet.

As far as I'm concerned, there is NO downside to using Optima batteries!!!! I've been using them since 95 in my vehicles and the oldest one is still going strong!

I like the Optimas too. Just be aware that they are not quite as tall as the OEM batteries. When I installed mine, the outboard hold-down bolt on the driver's side pierced a wire bundle directly under the battery tray and caused several electrical malfunctions. I pretty much pulled out most of what little hair I had left trying to find the cause. :{ :{ :{

Yup, they'll fit. You just have to do a little creative engineering to get the battery cable to reach the terminal on the battery and you have to bend the ears on the battery hold down a little bit.

You may not have to worry about the battery cables if you have a yellow top. The blue tops have offset battery terminals.

Can anyone tell me if they last twice as long (or close to it) as a "standard" high-quality battery such as a Diehard?? I am trying to justify the price and if they only last 50% longer, it isn't worth it. Sure, there are the other corrosion factors, but that factor is not important to ME. I will pay more, but it needs to last more. Any high-quality battery will start my truck. An "optima" won't start it "better". Once it's started, it's started. But if a yellow-top lasts 8 years in Colorado (rare extremes in heat or cold), and someone can vouch for this, I'll be game!

I can tell you that I have two red tops in my truck that where millitary returns (ie the military said they where used up) and they have been working fine for two plus years. I paid $30 each for them so I am happy.

So yes I would say a couple of red tops would last for 4-5 years, which is not bad when you consider that a regular batterys for our trucks a $50-80 each.
