Battery's

I have the Blue Tops in My Boat. I'm looking to install The Commerical yellow Tops in my Truck. Does any of our TDR Gang sell these Battery's. If Not, Someone Should. I'd think he would have a good Business from the TDR Gang.

Shipping would be the killer, I wouldn't doubt that it would be considered a hazardous materiel and have to ship by truck.

Sure do. At last count 22 of them on various farm equipment and vehicles. I don't have time to fool with no starts due to corrosion. It isn't just my time, there's usually also an operator standing around with a job that has to be done right now waiting. I've also been trying out gel cell Champion "red tops". The warranty isn't as good as Optimas but I picked up eight of them on sale for $59/ea. Time will tell.

doc, I don't really need deep cycle batteries and have heard from a reliable source that there are way more warranty returns on the yellow tops. If you are speaking of the new higher output yellow top (one battery will replace two) it's my understanding that it will also be available in a red top soon.

I am not a vendor, just a consumer. Chris

A local parts store is selling the red tops for $139. 95, when I mentioned to them that I had read on this site that Costco selling them for $100 they said they would match any price. I just need to print a quote or copy an add. Since there are no Costco store in Missouri, can anyone help? Ideas? Thanks, Larry

Roger,

I tried their website, no luck. Maybe Motorhead can fax a copy of his reciept to you.

I have two red-tops in my rig. They work great. The main reason I like them is that they don't dribble electrolyte all over the inner fenders and melt the wiring looms.

I didn't buy them as my origionals are still crankin. I always look when I go to Costco and ck prices on things that I use or will use such as Delo 400, coolant.

They had the blue tops there also but I can't remember the price, sorry.

Chris and me4osu,

Thanks for trying, I want to try a set but prefer to buy locally for warranty reasons. Advance Auto generously offered the price matching when I mentioned that their price was more then I expected. No one else stocks Optima batteries in my area..... If someone has purchased a set from Costco I would appreciate a copy of the invoice, it might work :) :). Larry

Batteries Yellow top

Thanks Bill for telling me the yellow top will be made into a Red top soon. I like the idea of one Battery to do all. It will leave more room on the right side for modifications. Is it raining in Montana today? Is pooring here in Kansas. . How's the Fishing??

All you guys that have the Optima red tops, would you keep us(the TDR) up to date on the performance of your batteries when some one leaves the light on and deadens the batteries. I know that we use the red tops in our air planes and once the batteries have been drained they have about a 10% chance of being recharged. We even have a special charger to recharge them when they are drained. The only difference between what you have in your truck and in our planes is the price. 100-139. 00 for the trucks. 1200. 00 for the plane(2 per plane). We go through about 30 to 50 per year.

I wouldn't waste my money on an Optima. Bought a red top for the boat and it didn't last 6 months... ... ... ... . ran it dead and it never took another charge. And of course the place I bought it from went under.

The stock ones in my truck have worked flawless and don't have one speck of corrosion on them. Everyone is different I guess. :)

Optima

O. K. , I have had a few rounds with an Optima. First WDaniels is right. They need to be kept charged, being carefull not to "boil" them. If they go dead and they are boiled that will void the warranty if it looses more than 3#. Yes they will weigh it. Now Red vs. Blue vs. Yellow, I was told by a dealer who is also a very reputable auto electric repair shop, not to buy anything but a Red top because there was not enough of a difference to give up the great Red top warranty. If you do drain one I was told the best way to try to save it is to charge them at a high rate for about an hour then lower the rate. Other than that I swear by them. Hope this helps.

I had a Yellow Top in my '89 Maxima for the stereos system and I got sick one winter and was down for nearly 3 weeks. When I parked the car I forgot and left my RCI 2950 radio on and drained the battery for about 2. 5 weeks. It didn't come back after that and it made me sick as I paid $180 for it and it was not very old. I didn't try for warranty because I figured they wouldn't like the fact that I drained it. I now have Red Tops in the CTD and they have been doing great so far.
