Optima yellow top--not worth the price

Yup--



Have had two of four batteries on two diesel p/ups. Both trucks lost the bat closest to the starter. I will not ever buy another Optima Red top for a diesel. One good draining, they will more than likely NOT come back. Too much $$$ for that. I will prob look at a LES Schwab bat this time.....

Its probably a fluke and now it will be dead because I bragged about it here!

HAHA same here, I have had 2 yellow tops that have been fantastic and the truck always starts right up, now excuse me while I go knock on wood... :-laf

I have two yellows in my jeep and i love them. Popped the hood on the truck yesterday and saw all the corrosion on the terminals and just wished they'd fail so I could replace them with optimas. I have an additonal optima in the camper and thats something I would never do with any kind of lead acid battery.



Btw, price isnt that bad if you buy from the right place. The markup is crazy on those batteries. Once a year the shop near me has a sale on the yellow tops for $90. I doubt they take a loss on them.



A good friend of mine, chief mechanic no less for his company, thinks I'm insane for spending what is roughly twice the price for a normal battery. I just shake my head when he buys a new battery every season ( for a jeep which sits all winter) and goes through all the crap of cleaning the battery terminals etc.

I think, as it has been stated, if the red tops get really drained, they just don't like it.

All this talk makes me afraid of starting my single red top in my 97' 3500 CTD. I have red tops in quite a few farm tractors here. One in particular has had the same battery for over 6 yrs... Hope I am not jinxed now... Marc

I'm on my 4th CT winter with a single optima red top. I run the truck almost every day.

My next battery will be another red top. I feel I've gotten awsum service out of it.
