Blah, Those Warns are weak. Only 90/100 watt H4's. If you can afford the Warns then check on the IPF version of those Warns. Ithink they were 8" in diameter and used a 90/160 watt H4. Spendy though at over 500 for the set. :eek:

Sorry Hammersley, didn't get your reply. Surprisingly IPF doesn't appear to have a website but they specialize in aftermarket lights like Piaa does. They Lights I was reffering to were the IPF 930 Super Rallys. They are 8" in diameter and 5 " deep. And they use a 100/170 watt H4 and cost in the neighborhood of 600 smacks. These light will turn the darkest nights into daytime. Here is a website with a poor picture of them... . http://www.4by4connection.com/ipf930hipedr.html

Did you get the;

Clear High and Plasma Ion Low beam with Blue Reflector

or the

Plasma Ion High and Low

If you look at my post Here you will see the two different reflectors, one light comes with bulbs that have a yellow top.

Don't know which one privides the best light, I would assume the clear high does.

thanks

Clear high/plasma ion low.

Amber light works best for avoiding reflected glare in fog, rain or snow, but would just look weird for the driving light--and there's no advantage to it there. But as it turns out, there's only a portion of the fog beam that looks amber from the driver's perspective, and it looks white to oncoming traffic. The fog beams don't have a very sharp cutoff, and don't provide much coverage out to the sides to light up the shoulders. The driving beams are bright, with quite a hot spot, but also fairly indistinct. They do supplement the 3G's poor high beam reflector enough to make a difference, which is what I really wanted, along with maintaining some fog capability.

The bottom line is that the lights are acceptable, but clearly a compromise. But then, I was spoiled long ago by PIAA 90 Pros, which have separate driving lights and crystal ion projector beam fog lights :D

Well 2nd Gen's headlights aren't any better, my 96 had the dead spot in the middle, and my 2001 has it too. Well I'm not decided for sure... .

Are the pro 90's still available, or do they cost too much?

They're still available, but they cost waaay too much (although the quality is worth every penny). The only reason I could afford them back then was because I was actively writing for 4WD & Sport Utility magazine at the time, and they were (ahem) provided for evaluation. ;)

Interesting. My 525 have a very sharp cutoff and light up the shoulder very well. But I am not using the grill since I didn't want to advertise 325 dollar lights. And I bought a plain set of clear H4 bulbs instead of having that stupid ion crap. If anyone wants a new set a ion crystal/super white bulbs I will sell the ones I have. :)

Ah, that's something I've forgotten about already (it's been a very hectic and stressful week, between work, getting ready for Moab, and some other things going on)--removing the rock guards is on my to-do list, but it was such a pain getting them aimed (they're kind of wedged in there) I wasn't anxious to do it real soon. Of course, they may just fit better, too, without the rock guards...

Dependent on aim of course. . Does the low reach out as far as the oem lows or are they simply a fog beam?

edit I learned something from the folks at PIAA, seems the fog lamps they sell have no cut off on top like a fog should... seems odd to me, with its spread isn't that a flood then?

The 525 lamp using the H4 could possibly be a better fog than say a dedicated 510 fog.
