I have a 2001, Ram 2500 with the Cummins Turbo Diesel. I am interested in adding a fuel pressure gauge.

What are my options as far as where I monitor the fuel pressure. Genos Garage sells a fuel filter cap with the test port drilled and tapped for a gauge. Is this my best option or is there a test port on the injection pump or somewhere else.

I would like to install this myself, but would also like to get the best results/accurate readings possible. I also want to eliminate any chances for fuel leaks.

Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I dont have a gauge yet but to the best of my knowledge they do/can be connected to the schrader valve(test port with black cap like a valve stem) on the fire wall side of the filter housing (prefilter) or at the injection pump on the driver side(post filter)

the cap deal may make for a pain in the butt filter change have not see one though i may be wrong about the cap

you have a couple options, the one's mentioned above at the schrader valves, or do yourself a favor and upgrade to the Vulcan Big Line and LP relocation kit. It does two things, enhances fuel flow and has a PSI tee in the line for the guage to connect to.

Get murphy 30psi switch gauge at detroit house. This gauge is mechanical and has a leg to activate light, or relay when psi drops below your preset low psi.

Kent,

We think we have the most fool proof and easiest method. Pick a mechanical guage of your choice, get the line kit, banjo bolt that includes the washers and an isolator and tubing kit. Mount the isolator and the gauge, fill the gauge side tubing with anti freeze and water 50/50 mix, thread the fuel hose to the isolator and the install the banjo bolt and finsih with the hose to banjo bolt connection. Start her up and see what your pressure is!!

That banjo bolt can be fairly fragile, be careful you don't over tighten it.

I also have an 01 and just installed an Isspro mechanical guage from Genos. I asked them to send me everything else I'd need to do the hookup including the rubber donut mount that they sell so I could mount it under the dash. The only thing I had to supply was a little wiring and a couple spade connectors for the light in the guage. Everything else was included along with great instructions. Glad I did it, lift pump was on it's last legs. I bought a small tube of high temp thread sealer too for all the brass connections... . not sure it's necessary but I did anyway.
