I want to trade, but want fewer options than I must take to get some desired options.

Examples:

I want the flat fold rear seat deck. To get that you must take the $455. 00 cloth seat option. I do not want cloth seats to soak up dirt and dust that aggravate my allergies

I want the steering wheel radio controls. To get that you must take the $750. 00 radio.

I want vinyl seats and floors. To get that you must take the ST package and then you can NOT get the power trailer mirrors or power windows and locks. I have an ST now and I NEED the power windows and locks. I would pay for the leather if I could only get the rubber floor mats. .

I have found that I carry a lot of dirt into the truck and I love the fact that a whisk broom is all I need to "detail" my interior. After 145K on a late 2000 my floor and seats look just like new. Many people ask if the cheap seats are leather.

Can a regional rep get special options like rubber floor covering.

FWIW, if you're looking at a SLT in the situation above, it comes with cloth seats either way. The $455 option is just "premium" cloth seats, and includes the storage under the front middle seat and such.

I have a 2001 SLT with rubber flooring myself. I don't know if I'll miss that with my new carpeted 2003 or not. My plan is to put Husky Liners in, and that's probably going to take care of it. If I put the front center hump liner in too, it'll end up covering up almost all of the carpet.

As far as the radio, I've seen it both ways. . Some guides let you option the steering wheel controls with the base SLT radio, some require the better Infinity systems. In the 2nd gens, you needed the better Infinity for the controls, so I tend to lean that direction. I went for the RAZ Infinity radio myself with the controls on my new one.

Posm,

Just go ahead and get the Laramie and throw some good slush mats in on top of that carpet. Those mats will collect 95% or more of the crap you drag in, and hold enormous amounts of liquids. Then you can just drag 'em out and dump 'em, no wisk broom needed. I was always a rubber floor mat guy, but it has just gotten too hard to get them in a truck these days.

PS what is Posm? It is'nt short for 'possum is it?;)

There used to be a no charge carpet delete option with the rubber mat instead. If not, I use the Fox Weatherboots. They are hard plastic and are molded into the floor pan, There aint nothin getting out of those onto the carpet, the have one low edge to let excess slop out, and that runs out onto the door jamb. I will not own another truck without getting them.

as a salesperson, a person that would know:

a) correct, you CANNOT get the rubber floor with SLT, period

b) the premuim cloth includes the powerseat, and hidden center seat area, for $100 or so add metal flat load floor...

BY the way, any one interested in these new trucks that wouldn't mind the drive to st louis, Email me if you want full details on pricing and etc. .

You got the nickname right.

I wonder how much it would cost to buy the rubber mats through the parts Dept. Or, better yet maybe I could get them to throw it in the "deal".

Posm,

The mats at the dealer are pricey $$$, and not nearly as good as the ones I bought 3 yrs. ago. If price is an object there are a lot of good mats out there in the aftermarket. I like the ones with the deep grooves.

Last time I was down your way all of the possums I saw on the road were the hard shell variety;)

See ya

Go with a set of Husky Liners. I have them in my truck (front and rear) and they are GREAT ! I'm sure it will be alot cheaper than ordering a rubber mat through DC. And, if & when you get ready to sell your truck, the next guy {or gal} may want carpet.

Fox weatherboots here too. I've had 3 sets in my 4 trucks and I'm a customer for life. They run the water right out the door in the winter and are removable for easy cleaning. The carpet on them is also replaceable when it starts getting tired - Carpet kits are like 15 bucks from the factory.

My cousin has great success by just covering the existing carpet with purchased roll vinyl (or rubber). He uses a clear vinyl that has the "grip" on one side, (along the lines of office chair vinyl mats... but much more pliable) and it looks great. It still looks dark because the dark carpet comes throught the clear vinyl, but it does a great job of protecting the carpet for a relatively small price and a few hours labor.

I'm with you, Posm... I would've much preferred a rubber floor instead of carpet. Your post got me thinking about it, and I went to see how much it would be to buy a complete rubber floor from Dodge. The relevant P/N for 2003 is 5GS57DX9AE, and at www.dodgeparts.com it's $373.

If I had it to do over again, I think I'd try one of 2 things:

1. Try to work it in as part of the "deal" when you buy the truck.

2. Or, see if any ST owners here are willing to "trade up" to carpet.

Of course, you can always just buy the rubber yourself and put it on after you take delivery. I don't think it would be a hard job, just time consuming to remove all the trim and seats.

I'm with you sir that the Audio controls are a must, and I've done some research a month or so back. In order to install them (most new trucks don't come with them :( ) You have to change the steering wheel which is not a big deal, its around $170 and get a wiring harness (not sure if it is for all the electronics on the wheel or not) at $240. Now that you have the wheel setup properly, you have to have either the CD/Cassette or the 6 Disc CD head unit, which the CD/Cassette are easily available on Ebay, very reasonable.

So, you could order your basic work truck and upgrade her after the fact for a lot less than the difference between an ST and Laramie.
