After a lot of looking around I ordered a 3500 DRW crew with the max tow package, longhorn and all the other stuff, except rear dvd. Now the wait begins. Is there any way to check on it. Seems like there used to be a web cam orsomething, or you could get codes at times that ment something. My dealer says 38 days untill it gets shipped. Then who knows. Looking forward to it. The last Dodge I ordered was a 96... been awhile.

My salesguy@ Dave Smith would call me every two weeks with an update. In 10-06 my truck was built and delivered to DSM in Idaho in 29 days.

38 days sounds a bit long to me... . I ordered on 12-28-10 and the truck built and was heading out of Satillo on the 15th of Jan..... then the wait began.....

I guess I should clarify. He told me 38 days to get the truck to Lordstown, OH. That is the dealers shipping point. From there he was unsure of when they would get it. I told him I would go get it at my cost if I had to. We will see, I can't wait. I am still reading about the EGR and DPF stuff. Have most of these issues been resolved? I am going thru back issues of TDR now. I admit I have a short commute, but I don't need to drive it to work everyday. Is there an add on gauge or something that will tell when it is in regen? Have looked a little at Edge and others but their sites don't show 2011 yet? I don't believe the evic shows regen????

Most of the DPF/EGR issues have been fixed, and the trucks seem to operate very smoothly, considering.

Like you mentioned the hardest thing on them is commuting, especially if its short (less than 15-20 miles) because they don't have time to get fully hot and complete a regen if they want to.

No the EVIC won't tell you when it's in normal regen, only 80% or greater, but many have reported they can tell by the instantaneous MPG meter on the EVIC.

My advise is stay 100% stock, or do deletes. . I wouldn't play in the middle ground.

I plan on keeping the engine stock. I just want the truck to last. I don't get a new one very often. Will prob only put 10k miles a year on it. Maybe not even that, I have other cars to drive. Commute is only 4. 5 miles, I will try not to do that much. Saw 1 at the dealer last nite that is very close to mine, very nice. Made me feel good about color. Counting the days. Oo.

Trouble free!

(I'm staying 100% stock until I can afford to delete!)

Man if your commute is only 4. 5 miles, plug your truck in to make it hot before you leave at least! I shudder to think of those poor cold cylinders clashing around!

My commute is ~9 miles each way. Even so, I'll only take the truck once every week or two. I normally commute in my 2003 Acura 3. 2TL-S - 20 MPG in commuter service and no problems since I bought it new.

I have a 6 mile commute, I have not had any problems because the Camper sits on the 2011 Ram 3500 while I keep driving the 2005 Dodge 3500 to work:) Both trucks get used hard every weekend, pulling trailers, camping and pulling the enclosed trailer with quads for riding.

39,

I heard that the deliveries were much longer now because of the railroad grade they had to build to get up over the migrant fences down on the border. :-laf Takes a while for the train to get over and back on flat land. Good luck with your truck.

That's true about the fences but the messiah is having a highway built and setting up a bus line to bus the illegals here in time to vote in November '12. New trucks being shipped in will soon be allowed to use the messiah's new highway.

Sounds like 10 miles or more is a good rule of thumb. I can do that most of the time easy. Still counting the days.

I think it sucks that you can't drive these new expensive vehicles any way you want to. I've driven my 01 just like any other car or truck since it was new whether I start it and hook my trailer up and shut it off, drive 2 miles to the store or whatever, runs like new.

If I can't take my $50,000. pickup to the store without damaging it I don't want one. Why invest in that much and then have to spend your time in a POS cummuter car. Doesn't make sense to me. Life's too short, if I have a new nice pickup, I'm going to drive it.

I've got a '11 and I believe this only applied to the very first 6. 7's. In talking with the dealer they only had problems early on with people who seriously ran the kid 3 blocks to school, picked them later, and then went 1 mile to the store. Day after day after day after day. Never left town for months. When I was shopping I was told by several people that as long as it gets run up to full operating temp about once a month, with the software upgrades everyone should be fine, it can do its DPF thing at idle now if it needs to.

I've got a 6 mile commute and the gym is 1 mile away. But every weekend we're carry a 5k camper and I drag a enclosed trailer too, or at least drag an enclosed trailer out of town (ATV's). In total miles my commute is nothing in % to my monthly total.

Yes it can, but it takes 5 minutes at idle for it to go into the idle regen mode. It's designed for hunting and farm use where you can't get up to speed for a long time, you just let it idle for 5 minutes and it enters a different regen, then as long as you stay under 25 mph it continues to regen.

There is no doubt that some owners of '07. 5 trucks who used them for short trips and light duty cycles experienced some sooting issues but we haven't been seeing those complaints in the TDR forums for a long time now. I believe the evidence shows that Dodge and Cummins developed software revisions that provided modifications to the regeneration cycles over time that prevented the early problems. Software revisions like the Net Zero mode that allows regeneration during idle periods have probably eliminated most of the early complaints.

It is probably still a good idea to use these trucks for work as often and as much as possible but the new ones can probably handle the grocery getting duty cycle without setting codes now.

My experiance on ordering... I ordered my longhorn on 20 Jan and hopefully will be picking it up this week... . 3 months later! I have a copy of the order form and a customer order is priority 1 but the truck wasn't scheduled for production until 15 Feb... just scheduled. The truck was actually built 22-25 Mar... only takes a few days to complete until it's released from the plant... . goes into a holding yard awaiting a train then to another regional holding yard awaiting transport to ur dealer. There is a phone number you can call and get updates yourself everyday if you like... once you get a vin assigned anyway. I'll have to ask my wife for the number as she always did the calling for me. Not sure why mine took so long... hopefully yours will go much faster.
