I, for one, wouldn't have anything with a Fiat badge on it and certainly not a Fiat diesel in a Dodge Ram.

It is silly to speculate about replacing the Cummins engine w/Fiat as a cure for the emissions crap. The EGR/DPF mess is the best solution the engineers could come up with to meet the stupid and unreasonable tree hugger requirements imposed by EPA bureaucrats. Any diesel engine sold now is going to have some form or restrictive junk cobbled on it to catch soot.

Your lucky to have to C&C model my truck has been a dissappointment in dealer service for a brand new truck it has been finally working correctly for the moment.

Having the whopper payment book just seems that the bluetek badge is about a half *** job on a system that mercedes has revised and still uses in production and chrysler did not use exactly what the europeans have tweaked and implemented .

it is all about production costs

Truck technology must evolve beyond what we have now to help reduce fossil fuel consumption and keep current power levels

hydro assist drives with generators will enable rare earth electro drive motors to reduce fuel consumption

just wish the urea exhaust would make the cut to the 2500 series

been looking back at the 5. 9 again on the corner for sale again

I'm not "lucky" to have the cab and chassis. The decision was carefully weighed and considered before I ordered the truck for several reasons including less emissions equipment than the pickups.

The blutek name appeared briefly in connection with the Dodge-Cummins engine, possibly just marketing, but Cummins designed and built the emissions hardware and software used on the Cummins engine.

No, it's not about production costs, it's about meeting unnecessary and unrealistic rules created by empty-suit self important bureaucrats to satisfy their tree hugger allies who think diesel engines are evil.

Harvey, since you have the Cab & Chassis with less emission equipment, is your truck exempt from emission testing every two years?

My 05, 3500 is exempt by the grandfather clause. It may just be the last truck I buy, especially is Dodge start using Fiat diesel engines in the future.

I will say one thing. In some of the equipment I sell we have the 6. 7 ltr Iveco engine (rebranded of course) and it has been a very good engine. In my line of work the salesmen have to know there product from specs to f & I.

Harvey, Bluetec is a Mercedes copyright/trademark brand and Dodge would not be putting the badge on the truck if the system did not belong to the owner of the copyright which belongs to Mercedes. Way back when Daimler still owned Chrysler the decision was made to use the Bluetec system on the diesel trucks so Cummins engineered an engine and software around the exhaust. Even after the sale the time, design and effort was already into the 6. 7l so why change when 3/4 of the engine and software were already developed. Cummins does write the software for the engine and emissions but the exhaust sytem is all Mercedes design (they really just bought the company that developed the system and called it their design). If Cummins builds the system it would still be a Bluetec system due to coyright and trademark designs and laws. They even put urea on the system some years ago so the cab/chassis will still have a Bluetec system even with urea. If you notice Mercedes, VW, BMW and Dodge all use the Bluetec system because what are the alternatives? Probably not much that would work for Uncle Sam's wonderful regulations. Don't mean to sound off, just the facts as I have read them.

On a side note my '09 is all stock and I have 15,000 miles with zero emissions related problems and 18 mpg. For that matter I have had no problems with the truck and that is why I like buying the end of a model and not the begining of one as there seems to be less issues. But the 2010 should have the same results as the system seems to be working now with less and less problems. Ford and Chevy will not be as lucky for their 2010's as they try to comply.

Grizzly,

Texas only imposes emissions testing in several counties that are major population centers: Houston, Dallas, Austin, and El Paso. And the so-called emission testing as I recently read it on a state website only requires visual inspection on a diesel engine.

I live in Crosby County east of Lubbock where there are blue skies and open space and no emissions testing.

Okay, thanks. Your explanation sounds reasonable. I've never seen a Dodge Ram with a Bluetec badge. Which ones have it?

I've had no problems with mine either in 57,000 miles. I also never buy the first year of a new product line, especially one as complex as the ISB6. 7 emissions crap.

"Blutech" can also be found on the window sticker. Used to be on the option side and one of the last options listed. I thought it was $900. 00.

I remember the additional line item on my invoice and MSRP sticker but didn't pay much attention to the cute name applied to it. My C&C doesn't have a tailgate and I guess I haven't paid enough attention to the new pickups to notice or remember the tailgate badge.

the H. D. Will be out as a 2010 with all the cabs with long and short box

reg cab

crew cab

meg cab

quod cab

if you will be in T. X for the state fair you'll see the new 2010 crew cab dully long box. you will wont one

i am thinking of buying a new one too, but want to see what they have and cost first, i was looking at a new duramax and the msrp was 49000, nice truck, but the dealer was asking 62000 ??? the salesman said it was because of the lift and wheels and tires, i said what lift, it had a set of 285s on it with some decent rims, at the most it had 2500. 00 in upgrades, i told the dealer no wonder why they were going under and walked off, i hope dodge doesnt do the same and want 5000. 00 more because it has a chrome bug guard.

I also plan on buying a 2010, and selling my 2005, but first I will sit in one of those new seats for 2 hours to make sure it's not like the bad seats my 05 had, also I will be going with a 2WD, not a 4x4 as I have now, all my problem have been front end related, and I really don't use 4WD. The 05 has the 48RE trans, for towing with 373 gears is really isn't very good, my weight is about 20,000 pounds, the shift points are not what I want, the new 6 speed automatic, with 410 gears should do the trick, I think the 2010 will be a winner, GM has a new revised engine, and ford will also, I really like the Cummins engine, I think they will be out early next year, I will wait several months after there out before ordering one.

From what I can tell on the net, production of the 2010 HD's starts 9/28/09. I'm wondering if I can order one then.

Well my dealer did not get pricing till last Fri (23rd), my truck was ordered Sat morning. He has 2 2010 2500s in que for the lot and my 3500 they are all showing the same status order accepted.

I'll be sure to update when they change status to assigned a VIN. :D
