Since we (dealer and me) could not find a 2010 Ram 3500 Dually Laramie with the options I wanted 4. 10, black, etc. . going in to order a new 2011 tomorrow. What are all the heavy hauling towing options I need to mark?

4. 10

Auto

Integrated Brake controller

Mopar Gooseneck hitch?

Anything else?

I strongly agree with your choice of MOPAR six speed automatic and 4. 10 gears. I would also make sure you'll have the trailer towing mirrors, limited slip differential, upgraded stereo system, upgraded upholstery and seats, fog lamps, optional lighting that includes the underhood and cargo lamps, and more. I recommend looking carefully over the list of options on the "build your own" website to make sure you're not forgetting anything you'll regret.

I don't own a 2011 and have not experienced the Dodge integrated brake controller but I do know it is an inertia-activated controller not a brake line pressure sensing controller.

I have a different opinion of that option. I would skip that option and after you take delivery install a MaxBrake hydraulic line pressure activated brake controller. IMO trailer braking, trailer brake modulation, and overall towing satisfaction will be much greater with the MaxBrake than with the Dodge brake controller.

Thanks Harvey, in looking it looks like your entire list is included with the Laramie package which we are doing.

Anyone get the Mopar gooseneck hitch yet? I've had the B&W Turnover ball and have loved it in my 2005.

Placed my order about a month ago with Dave Smith Mtrs. I was in the same boat as you, could not find a 2010 White 3500, auto, 4. 10. Laramie. I did delete the trailer brake option. I have the Max Brake now, and won't tow without it. Also delete the engine block heater. The engine has the heater, just no cord. You can buy that from Geno's for $16. 00. I will also stay with the B&W. Dave Smith installs them.

Orde the brake controller

EGroeneveld,

I have to say that I disagree with the posters here advising against the Dodge brake controller. First of all it is a great value (it's like what $230 to order?). Secondly, I tow a 30ft travel trailer and think the stock TBC is wonderful. I'm comparing it to others I have used which include the Prodigy, Ford Factory TBC and the some others no names. I am extremely pleased with the stock TBC and would recommend it. In addition, the factory one integrates with your dash EVIC so you can see the brake info very easily.

With the added stopping power of the exhaust Brake and the transmission, I don't think TBC's play as big a role as they used to. I may be wrong and I'm open to criticism but, I don't believe you'll notice $120 worth of difference between the stock one and the Maxbrake.

I'm really glad I ordered it with my 3500.

The integrated trailer brakes is standard on a Laramie 3500 along with the tow mirrors, limited slip, fog lamps, etc. .

My price will be $ 50,708 plus 1% or $ 51,215 minus any rebates when it arrives.

If order in the next week should arrive Late September or early October.

Still thinking hard about it, have loved my 2005 but this truck would be awesome. Its a lot of money but very do able

He is NOT aware of any changes yet for power ratings or tow ratings from 2010 to 2011.

Sounds like a beautiful truck. How come no two-tone? I think the black two-tones are sharp looking with the fender flares, etc... The $100. 00 credit they give you for no two tone and flares isn't enough -- they should give more back. And all black truck will be really sharp too!!! Get it!

I understand what you are saying about the brakes, but if you have never used a " Max Brake" type of brake, you just have no idea of the differance. They are far superior to the inertia type. If my 2011 comes in with the factory brake, that's ok, but it will be replaced.

Sorry I Just do not like the two-tone look. I think it makes it look like an old guy truck, no offense to anyone I hope:)

I have never had any problems with my inertia type brakes so I'll try the factory setup since it comes standard with the warranty.

I wish they would do a 'Sport' look again, body color bumpers, etc... but I will survive with all the chrome and black!

Anyone interested in buying my 2005 Ford Excursion with the really super duper 6. 0 diesel motor?

You guys sure the factory brake controller isn't tied into the computer for more controlled operation? I believe that's what Ford does.

i wish they still made a sport, haven't owed a chrome grill in for ever. waiting on my 2011, have a vin. ordered a deep water blue 3500 stick with every option i could find, minus the bed liner, didn't know about a factory goose neck hitch

Well still have not been able to bite the bullet and put the order in.

First Step, get my Ford Excursion up for sale and sold, depending how much I clear on it will factor into the decision of selling my 2005 and purchase a new 2011.

Also looking around for 2011 power, hauling, and towing numbers there is nothing but assumptions that it will be same as 2010. Which would be okay. But then I see rumors of 8 speed auto and a redesign for 2012. I mught just have to wait another month or two and see what new rumors come around.

Was also desippointed in the amount the dealer would offer for trade in on my 2005. Might need to private party sell it. The other thing that bothers me is $ 50K for a truck:) Its fully loaded Laramie but still its $50k.

Working on selling the Ford Excursion off will allow me some more time to decide what to do.

Additional discounts

Also, if you join your local Farm Bureau (probably for your state) you get an additional $500 off the price but you need to join 90 days prior to buying.

I can't address the issues of selling a Furd, trade-in allowance on an '05 Ram, or the price of a new Dodge but IMO the rumors of an eight speed automatic for Dodge Rams anytime soon is false.

The ISB6. 7 and new MOPAR six speed automatic have only been on the market since mid year 2007. That fact coupled with the fact of slow truck sales and modest profits at the auto makers indicate it's not going to happen. Performance and durability of the 68RFE have been excellent as far as I've heard. Consider how long Dodge used the basic old three speed automatic torqueflight repeately upgraded and modified to stand up behind a HPCR Cummins rated at 350hp/650tq.
