Ordering gauges...

I have decided to order Dakota Digital gauges for my '99 Ram. I have a couple of questions.



1) The pyro sensor comes with three different lengths for the thermocoupler (6, 10, and 12 feet). Is 6 feet long enough to do an A-pillar mount?



2) I am planning to get the Pyro and Fuel Pressure now. Is it necessary to add the boost gauge before doing mods?



Here is my plan of attack on mods:



1) Gauges (Pyro, and Fuel Pressure) - establish a baseline for what the truck is doing prior to any mods.

2) Drag muffler off on stump.

3) Build new house with my wife. Oo.

4) EZ.

It's not neccesary to have a boost gauge before you start BOMBing, but it's a good diagnostic tool. Also, if you plan to put one in later, then you would need a 3 gauge pod. You will either have a 2 gauge pod now (and change to a 3 gauge pod), or a 3 gauge pod with a hole left empty.

Or you can do what im doing and use a 2 guage piller and steering colum pod.

I'm almost finished installing my three-gauge a-pillar mount. I think you ought to use the ten-foot lead for the t/c. As I recall, mine was a ten-foot kit and I cut a little over three feet off of it. It's a lot easier to cut wire than to stretch it.



I have a stock truck and didn't see a great need for the boost gauge, either, but, as HillCountryKid says, it is a good diagnostic tool. I figured I might as well do it now as later. If you're planning on getting one "sometime", you might consider doing it now just to save buying another a-pillar pod.



That is, if you can find one. I think I read somewhere that Autometer stopped making them.

What kind of gauges did you install? What pyro readings do you get? I was under the understanding that the pyro sender/cable was calibrated to the length of the wire and it should not be cut? Maybe this was just with the autometers that I installed. 10' worked fine for mine mounted in the bottom hole of the triple A pillar.

8 foot was more than enough for me to put my pyro in the top pillar hole.
