Hi TDR,

I have been subscribed to TDR for almost a year now. I have finally convinced my wife that it's time to get a Diesel. Can you please let me know if there is any options that I'm missing that I should get with my new truck?

The truck will be 90% daily driver and 10% tow rig.

Here is the current truck that I"m trying to find. 2003, diesel, AT (should I get the 48RE over the 47RE?), 4 X 2, Tow Package, Tow Mirrors, Steel Storage Floor (when rear seats are up, allows indoor cargo space), keyless entry, shortbox.

Is there any other options that I should consider?

I'm in N. California, so not many real windy big hills. So I was going to pass on the exhaust brakes... .

Also, the High Output can't be sold in California, so I can't get it.

Any other Suggestions?

Thanks,

Thomas Schwartz

Odds are, you won't find any 47REs on lots - they were last produced nearly a year ago - all trucks produced since late last year are 48REs. The 48 is a better unit anyway.

Also, pickings will be slim, as 2003s were last produced 2 months ago, so you're limited to dealer stock. You can go to dodge.com and search new dealer inventories in your area for what's left.

Your best bet may be to order a 2004 and get everything you want the way you want it. Compromising on a truck when you don't have to is never a great choice.

first of all..... the biggest hill you have already climbed!!! (the wife and congrats on that oh and tell us all how ya did it so some of us that wants to upgrade can try and make it fly!!) second. . I have a SO calif 47RE and tow a 5ver with 14. 5k lbs in it and no issues... . as was previous stated there are no 47RE's left and the 48 is SUPPOSED to be better... either way. . GET ONE (while the wife is still in a good mood lol) and enjoy it...

my two cents

Hey Tomcat, welcome aboard! If you find a nice Lariat, it's got a couple bells and whistles that are nicer than the SLT, but you've got the right idea with your description. You might just head to the dealer and order an '04 instead though. I'll keep my eyes open.

Unfortunately to get but warmers you need to get the laramie and that means leather. I will be getting that although I am not that big a fan of leather. Good on the fold flat floor- dont delete that!. Everything to do with towing options and plow prep-is good to get. Even if you do not plow you will get the heavier duty springs at a minimum. I like 4. 10 but the 3. 73 are only 10% off of that.

With the SLT you should have cloth seats, look at one with the "premium cloth" seats. that way you get a nice storage area under the middle seat. A driver's seat that once you get it adjusted just right, some fool friend will get in and adjust the seat so that yo will never have the seat just right again. Of course it is your choice.

It wouldn't hurt to order up two extra wheels and tires and some dually fenders :D

I agree if you can't find the truck you want order one. Why spend $30 some thousand and be Ticked off every time you look at or drive the thing.
