klenger,

Yeah, they do look cool, but not $275 cool! They are both Michelin tires, both 275 - 75 - 16's, both load range E, so I wonder why the optional tires are so much higher? $275 more for 5 tires (I assume the spare is RWL also) works out to $55 per tire, I wonder what the difference in price would be if buying the tires from a tire store? I can't believe it would be over ten bucks or so per tire, but I may be mistaken.

Double 6, it looks like you have the twin to my ride. I'm glad to see that someone else has this cool color.

I asked about several options when I ordered mine and most of the ones I asked about I wound up getting except for the fog lights. The HO X-fer case and LSD are worth it. The LSD makes up for the $275 upgraded tires and it lasts a lot more than 50,000 miles. I figured that I could install better fog lights cheaper than factory and get it how I wanted. One year later I still don't have any:rolleyes: The cab lights are a no-brainer... they just look so cool.

I think you are right going with the HO 6 speed. Do you really need that quad cab? I went with reg cab and really like it. I didnt get the HD tranfer case but kinda wish I had. Didnt know about it then.

Tires: I got the Michellins but let me check they cost me 415$ They are good tires; I have 40K on them but man do I hunger for som Mud Terrains BFGs I wish Instead of those michellins I had got the stock tires, soldem and bought some 295 AT/KOs BFGs. As soon as these michellins wear out I want to go with some medium duty tires 19. 5s and put some real aggressive MTs on my stock rims.

Get the LSD it works great on my baby.

The sliding back glass is a must also

Fight the urge for all that sissified SLT eletric everything. It comes with knobs to roll up your windows. They work great! Think hard about that quad cab, less is more, simpler is better. Carpet on the floor?!?!?! Dont do it!!! My vinyl mat sprays out easily and I dont care if people get in with muddy boots.

Look at a reg cab 4x4 beside a quad. It looks better.

Cruise Control: Dont do it! Hook up a throttle cable and get mass mileage and let god decide your speed.

I vote for reg cab

LSD

A/C( very sissified I almost didnt order it)

(GULP) cloth seats- oh well I got A/C so what the hell

HD trans

6speed & HO ETH/DEE

Rear slider

Camper PKG

THATS IT!

I think you would be better off going to a good trailer repair or welding shop to get you a good beefy rear receiver put on at the same time you get your goose neck ball. They pulled my bed off to put the ball in my truck.

Look in the mirror and fight that media induced mentality to change your truck into some kind of SUV. That inline Cummins is embarrased by all those things. Think of how youd feel being a big bad a$$ and your moma dressing you up all pretty and pink!

You should get those options that you think you will need and enjoy. I would make one observation though that nobody else has apparently yet mentioned--the effect options will have on resale. Most of us buy our trucks thinking we will have them longer than what we usually do. In my opinion it makes sense to remember that someday someone else will be buying our truck and it may be worthwhile NOW to equip the truck so it will be more saleable at that time.

Without knowing where you are from it is hard to say what options will make a truck more marketable. Here in Montana almost all trucks are 4x4's. Selling a 2x4 here can be tough. I know the dealer from whom I bought my truck ( a small farming and ranching community dealership that sells @ 150-200 new trucks per year) orders most of his trucks with manual transmissions, travel convenience, air and power, 4x4, cloth interior, trailer tow and camper packages, HD transfer cases, am/fm/cd/cassette, remote keyless entry, power seat. He rarely orders the limited slip rear end or leather interiors, sliding rear windows, or cab marker lights. He has found through experience what truck options sell to the locals.

Just food for thought is all. Enjoy all the fun that goes with buying a new truck!

Think hard about the stereo

$500 sounds like a lot to me for any factory stereo. IMHO, if you shop around and do the installation yourself, the same money should get you a head unit, four speakers, and an amp which will sound far better.

Good luck!

I'll have to agree with Expat regarding the ~$500 factory stereo, I'm a little disapponnted in mine. The wife's '98 Caravan has the top of the line factory stereo, which I believe, was also something like a $500 option. Hers sounds great, one of the best sounding factory systems I've ever heard, though I certianly no audiophile. I assumed the upgraded system in the Ram would sound just as good, since it cost about the same, so I went for it when specing out my truck. Well, the unit in the Ram does not sound anywhere near as good as the one in the Caravan. I have no idea if the diference is in the head unit, speakers, or both, it just dosen't sound near as good. I guess the acoustics (sp?)in a van may be a little better, but even my "uneducated" ear can tell that that's not the whole difference.

If I had it to do over again, I would just go with the standard radio & apply the extra $$ towards a Power Edge EZ. I certianly don't regret spending that $500!

rear window

if you want the solid window and want it tinted, you can get it tinted at any local window tinter. shouldn't be more than $30-$40. has any one installed one of the power sliders? pretty expensive, but would be nice to be able to open the window with a switch... ... . also should be more secure..... also, has any one tried installing power quad door window openers? i would think that the power units from chrysler vans (or any other brand?) could be installed on the quad door windows... ... ... inquiring minds want to know!
