Oregon's New School Zone Speed Law-look out!

"The law establishes some school zones as school speed 20 zones at all times, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year (for those school zones adjacent to school grounds and 30 mph or less). "



YEP - that's right 20mph - 24/7 365/year!

To clarify, that is 20 mph "all the time" for school zones in a 30 mph or less zone. If the road has a 35 mph or higher limit it is still 20 "while children are present". Doesn't make any sense to me

Seems reasonable? Around here kids are playing on the schoolgrounds all the time at different hours.

More clarification - They are changing signs to include the Time that the 20mph limit will be enforced. Our local school now has times in the moring and afternoon listed on the cross street but the main road is still showing "When Children are present".



I would rather have a time listed then a general statement of when you see a kid so I'm okay with this new Law.

At our school (where I'm employed) we have the yellow caution lights. If the lights are on (flashing) it's 20 mph.



@ the Amish school(s) it's 20 mph when children are present.



We often have a Deputy Sherrif here @ the school during restricted hours. We are a rual (very remote location) school system.

Yep people need to pay attention and read road signs. Yea like thats going to happen. I go right by a school when I go pick up the better half from work & the signs are up & people are blowing right by me atleast 35mph. We will see what happens this week, they have put up one of those tempory signs that show your speed. Tomarrow it will probably be a hand held connected to the long arm of the law. LOL
