1 million pound load

I've got 3 hobbies going in the last couple of gears and got stuff all over the house. What do you guys do to keep it organizecd and readilyy accesable?

I've got 3 atv's for the family So 4 helmets along with riding gear, Chest protectors pants jersies golves etc

One hunting (bird) dog along with his training gear, collars training dummies, extra water and food dishees for when we go away, different leads, e collar and transmitter, whistle, etc

And now my hunting stuff which I am just starting to accumulate. Upland vest, boots, orange hat clothes, gloves. jacket pants etc

Plus I've got all my work clothes for working on the truck, house construction jobs and other dirty things.

What the heck do I do with it all so that I can access it easy? Right now all my clothes regardless of what they are for are in my closests and drawers. the dog and hunting stuff is piled in a corner of my office. the atv stuff is all over, my truck, two garages and basement. It drives me nuts. i also have my camera and video equipment and various electronics piled in my office as well. I need to remodel my basement or at least file for the permit before 12/31 because the original owner never filed a permit when they re did it and the building inspector found out when he checked the house to give me a CO for the addition I did. I could use this opportunity to put in a gear room but really can't picture in my head what to build to neatly store all the different items. Anybody else have similar stuff and have it organized? a couple of pictures would be great. I have never been good at visualizing stuff in my head. Right now when you walk into my house (basement off the driveway. you enter an over crowded laundry room I am thinking of enlarging the room and putting in closets and and cabinets. This way I can get all the winter coats and stuff down stairs as well which would free up an over flowing up stairs closet. Thanks in advance

basement ceiling height is only 7' +-

Get someone who does cabinet/closet design to help you at least draw up or engineer something. My mother had a closet remodeled. It is amazing what the "proper" shelves, bins, racks and organizers can to for efficient use of space.

My "stuff" is piled around everywhere too. I need to take my own advice!

I store my duck/goose gear in those vacuum bags. They work great! I can get waders, big coat, gloves, coveralls, hats etc all in one bag, suck the air out, and slide it under a bed. I also use the big Rubbermaid tubs to keep things separate. Of course, there is still a lot of stuff all over, but at least some of it is sorted. I also have one of the big rolling shelves that sit in front of other shelves in the garage. It's kind of a pain to move them when I need something on the other shelf, but at least they're on wheels. Oh, and I keep the training dummies in the bbq on the deck! A place for everything, and everything in its place!

I thought about tubs, never tried the vacum bags, but I want everything readilly accesable I hate digging through stuff. I would love to just have duffel bags and back packs packed and ready to go so I could just grab and go. Most of the stuff comes back wet and dirty. hmmm maybe a better organized laundry room and individual closets with cubby holes for the packs and duffels and a little more orginization on my part. I had all my dog training gear in a back pack but I just throw the pack in a corner and trip on it. I think a bunch of pack sized cubbies will do the trick. Thanks AMink

The tubs are great because you can label them and grab the one(s) you need. All the dirty stuff can go back in them as long as you REMEMBER TO OPEN THEM when you get home! Stuff will grow on wet gear in a semi-airtight tub.

Just put it all in the back seat of the truck ! :D That appears to be what my MO has degraded to. Had to empty it out Friday for a run up to PA. Found a cattle prod, a 10-22, a grunt call and a neck tie I had been looking for. Also found the source of what smelled vaguely like a dead quail. :-laf:-laf Had to run that game vest through the wash. Those little green cardboard Christmas trees do wonders, if you hang enough of them.

Thats what I got now :-laf Well minus the cattle prod But I think I have an ASP to make up for it. Thank god for the extended cab or I would have no place to sit:eek:

Get married! My stuff used to be thrown around everywhere too- now I can't find mine and her stuff is thrown around everywhere????????:-laf:-laf

I have a lot of snowmobiling gear and was looking for a way to keep it all in one place that way when is was time to ride, just grab and go. Bins are too bulky and I couldn't find a camping duffel bag that held everything, yet was easy to dig stuff out of. I finally figured out that a hockey bag would hold my helmet, coat, bibs, gloves, and boots all fit into and it stores great.

I'll check out the hockey bag thing Thanks

I like RubberMaid bins. I measure out shelves and buy the ones that most closely fit the shelves. Maximize shelfs that way. Did the same thing with my travel trailer in the storage compartments outside. No ASP or cattle prod, just a 4 D-cell maglight in the cab.
