But they are not afraid to die

Terror - 911

i'm not buying it ...

i agree , send us his head in a box . though it would be more satisfying for us to send his head back to his family after we put it in the box .

put him on a plane with his buddies and autopilot it into the side of a mountian with him strapped to the nose ...

Sorry, but this so called "house arrest" Is just to help protect him.

We really should have helped the Russians take him, and the rest of Afganastan out in the 80s. In the 80s we were training and supporting this POS.

Pork chop in mouth

Good one Fatcat. I see your up on your Islamic doctrine, but the the chronological order should be changed. First stuff that Pork Chop down his throat and make him half chew it and swallow. Then you immediately LOP off his head, IN this manner according to his own religion you send him straight to Hell w/no chance for repentance or forgiveness from Allah. Pigs are considered to be vile and unclean creatures by the Islamic faith. Practitioners are not even allowed to touch them without causing themselves to become just as unclean as the pig.

I guess that is one of the reasons why they hate me personally. I love southern fried pork chops, pork tenderloin bicuits smothered in Tobasco sauce and onions, and especially West Tenn. pulled BBQ pork w/hot sauce. Pork it is the other white meat.

I am sickened by some of what I am hearing about nuking Afghanistan and Baghdad, etc... . .

Two wrongs do NOT make a right.

It's a relatively small group responsible for these crimes - not the whole country of Afghanistan. 99% of them are NOT terrorists.

Bombing cities kills thousands of INNOCENT victims, JUST LIKE the WTC.

If it isn't right to do it here, why is it right to do it there?

I can already hear people saying "to teach them a lesson"

Haaa! You CANNOT teach these guys a lesson. Forget it.

These are the guys who went DOWN with the planes - SUICIDAL!!!!

You really believe we can "teach" these people a lesson using force?

In a traditional conflict, countries desire to use force to "de-arm" the oppositions military such that they can no longer be a threat. And THIS is done with militaristic force.

In the terrorist war, you can't do this. These guys have almost NO military arsenal to de-arm. . heck, they used a commercial jet.

Using force to bomb Afghanistan to stop this in my mind, is not going to do anything more than tie up the US military (and NATO) in yet ANOTHER middle Eastern country for many years to come, and the terrorist problem will probably STILL be there. There are terrorist groups littered all over every country in the world.

I think the only way to win the war against terrorism is to improve the intelligence, track them down one at a time, and stay OUT of other countries affairs that provokes the whole thing to start with.

I truly hope that the US thinks this one through, with regards their "method" of retalliation before acting.

The result will have global effects, which may end up being worse than what has already happened.

I believe these terrorists NEED to be hunted down and caught, then punished for their crimes. PUNISHED DEARLY, but let's not include thousands of very innnocent civilians that have absolutely nothing to do with any terrorism movement.

Let's not stoop to their level.

My . 02

Shawn

Shawn. .

You are right on on this... . I have people in NY, and I still don't think 2 wrongs make a right... Some of you have good points... But.....

These guys are not crazy. . they are very intelligent, dedicated, religeous fanatics... brought up as children with these teachings. . somewhere the chain must be broken.

God Bless America,

And I don't own a gun!!!

As far as this "house arrest", I too, think it's B. S. just to placate us... enuf of that crap!

So what do we do ?

Shaun,

241 marines killed by a truck bomb in Beirut, extended humiliation of the hostages taken by Iran, the war with Iraq, the bombing of the Cole, the destruction of the embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, the devastation of the Starke, the Saudi barracks, the dropping of airliner after airliner... and you write this?!!!!

You call them terrorist... this they are not... they are soldiers fighting a war against us. Tuesday was a battle to them and the tip of the iceberg. Guess what Son, they won this one.

Rediculous arrests and punishment have done no good and will only heighten the indignity. Remember Lockerbee Scotland?... they were arrested and punished as you want. Tell me what just happened again.

These acts will continue until we stand up. Sorry Shaun, this is fact.

Did you forget the WTC has already been bombed one time before? They were arrested and punished as you would have. Now the damn buildings are both flat on the ground with tens of thousands of dead people in the pile. Tens of thousands!, taken in cold blood.

Passive arrests and punishment should be replaced with "People are going to die for this, a whole lot of people"

We need to concede that most of the Moslem world is our enemy and we are at war. Shaun they hate the American way... they feel the West is not deserving of its freedom of government and choices. It goes against their entire religion. In the Moslem world the Western world IS the enemy. Does the WTC not slap you into reality that they are ours?

People who do not stand up and fight to be free... do not deserve to be free.

Will your freedoms be compromised from this? Yes they will and if you think the WTC was bad, arrest and punish these SOB's and see what happens next.

Finally, you say two wrongs dont make a right. Why is it wrong to kill the people whom just killed us? Harboring soldiers fighting a war against us is the same as doing the crime yourself.

The only way we could save any dignity and get respect in the world would be to hit back so hard as to make teeth rattle around the world.

Don,

I can empathize with your emotions, but levelling a country will NOT stop terrorism, no matter how many lives are lost. Period.

They do NOT care about lives. They went down intentionally with their own planes. Is this the type of person who cares about lives?

There are hundreds of groups (or soldiers as you called them) of terrorists right in the USA, not to mention many other countries in the world. Afghanistan just happens to be one of them, albeit a supporter.

Do you REALLY think that boming Afghanistan will stop terrorism?

This isn't about a single solitary country. This is about thousands of extremist terrorists scattered throughout the world.

These terrorists have launched an attack to which they know the western countries cannot win with only military force.

This fight will take MUCH more than brute force. It will take intelligence, and a carefully crated plan to eliminate these world-wide groups bit by bit until they are gone, and THEN maintain that status.

Shawn

We are at war. Everybody step back, take a breath and let that sink in. We are at war.

One of the most ridiculous statements I heard from one of the media guys right after this, was something along the lines of, "Unlike in a conventional war, civilians have been targeted. " Hello! When you watch those old WW2 films and see our B52's flying over Germany dropping all those bombs, just who the heck do they think we're bombing? In a war civilians are always going to get hit. That's war. It's ugly. It's brutal and no one should make light of it. The difference is, we've convinced ourselves that war can be this neat tidy thing we do with push buttons and no one really gets hurt because all you see is some military building getting blown up. Our enemies recognize war for what it is. Killing as many of your enemies as you can. There are no innocents and there are no civilians. This is the way they see it and in all honesty, in war, they're not really very far off the mark. These guys declared war on us long ago. We failed to understand they meant it. War. Real WAR. Where they fight back and our people get killed too. Instead, we chose to pretend that we were safe and we could always have our conflicts only when it is our idea and we would always be safe here at home. "Oh, we're bombing in Iraq again? Ho hum, what's on the other channel?" This is our weakness. We fail to recognize that we're in a war, whether we want to be or not. If we do absolutly nothing and pretend it's just a crime like holding up 7-11 or something, it won't change a thing. They will still be at war with us. If we send billions of dollars to these countries that support terrorism, it won't change anything, except we'll be helping finance the war against us. These people will always hate us. They can't be bought off. It doesn't matter how nice we are to them. They will always hate us. They've been taught to hate us. You can't change that and that's ok but you can make them fear us.

They have killed an estimated 20,000 of our people. You don't treat that as a crime. It is time to unleash an unspeakable horror on them and the country that has hidden them for years. Will innocent people in Afghanistan die? Yes. That is the price to be paid. It's war one way or the other, it's time we joined the fight.

When other countries see the unspeakable fury we unleash, they will think really really hard before harbouring any terrorist camps etc.

Sorry so long, but I felt this needed to be said.

Dan

Shaun,

The lolly pop, feel good approach will not work and I have the past to prove it. WTC has been bombed in 1996. Arrested and punished the bad guys. WTC is now a pile of rubble with lots of dead people under it.

Airplanes are bombed all over the damn place. Bad guys arrested and punished. Four more planes go down Tuesday.

Is there a pattern here?

In your mind, how long will it take to find all these guys? Our intel is a creaky apperatus, it would be years Shaun.

The idea in war is not to die for your country, but to make the other SOB die for his. -Patton

Countries harboring soldiers are just as guilty. We are at war here Shaun. Mince no words, WAR!

It is not just a little band of bad guys we can all go arrest and punish. Once again, nearly all of them grow up this way.

Don~

...collateral damage...

Shaun and others, I appreciate your sentiment about "the innocent victims". Ten years ago, I also thought to myself, "Boy Desert Storm sure was nice. We didn't destroy very many things that weren't specifically intended. I bet the Iraqi citizenry sort of appreciate that. We kicked their collective ***, but we did it tidy. "

However, it's become abundantly apparent to me that a "common Joe" here, and a "common Abdullah" there are not superimposable mirror images of each other. There, naturally, are certain inescapable human similarities. There are also differences so glaring as to never be reconcilable. Here are a few.

We like life, and consider it a blessing.

They consider life to be a burden, and that they are the only ones worthy of possessing it, but, a burden, just the same. They'll take yours, assuming you go straight to hell, and if it's in a suicide bombing, or a suicide hijack/crash, they assume they go to Allah.

We consider warfare to be reserved for the warriors. Warriors we define as persons specifically trained in the proper conduct of warfare. We generally reserve the responsibility of potentially taking another's life for people who are old enough to appreciate "all that life has to offer". In doing so, the soldier feels the weight of his decision when he does administer death to an adversary, and does so, only when necessary, and never with a sense of joy or euphoria.

They consider any boy old enough to tie his own turban and point an AK to be a soldier. With any training at all, he's considered to be one of Allah's chosen Holy Warriors. By operating in that manner, they cheapen Human Life to the level of a goat, pig, or snake. How can one who has not experienced life place any value on it? Teach him to hate and kill before he's had a chance to love and live. They call the product of this environment a Mujihadeen. We call him zealot.

You have read internet postings, newspapers, American Literature of many different styles and flavors, from Twain to Fitzgerald to Clancy to Larry Flynt. Because of this, you have the ability to see issues from many perspectives simultaneously.

He's read the Koran. He has one perspective, and your view is not in it.

You are an American. You are Israel's ally. You are the Infidel. Note the wording: not "an infidel", but "the Infidel".

He is convinced that Israel should be utterly exterminated. That means the entirety of Jacob's family. Even the descendants that have converted to Christianity, if identifiable. Even the descendants that have converted to Buddhism, if identifiable.

Even the ones that have converted to Islam, if identifiable. Even the descendants that took up Atheism, if identifiable. This extermination desire is best summed up this way: "I'm going to kill you, your whole family, and anyone who's ever known, known of, heard of, seen, or spoken to any of you. " In short, if one single molecule of Jacob ben(bar?) Isaac's DNA exists in a living human, that human must die.

Refer to the paragraph above where I mentioned the two differences of "warrior".

We consider the "human shield" to be the refuge of a coward.

He considers use of same to be an opportunity to share the Glory.

We get squeamish about striking at an enemy when he's utilizing a "human shield". He knows this, and, utilizes it.

The very citizens behind which he hides support his plan, and jeer us as cowards when we are reluctant to take their lives to obtain his, and they are not thankful to us for sparing them (refer now to my comparison of "life").

I suspect that the "human shield" strategy may never work again.

The world may consider that to be "cruel and unusual".

Cruel? How? We're sending them to Allah!

Unusual? If it happens often enough, it won't be "unusual" anymore, will it?

Stoop to their level? No. They've been warned, in no uncertain terms, that our view of, and attitude toward, the activities of the terrorist has now changed. We no longer consider this activity as a crime. We now consider it the same way they always have. Warfare. No cryptic reference that could be misconstrued. "Hunted down and punished" has, to me, no loophole for double meaning or misinterpretation. There have been other phrases like that in the recent addresses. "We will make no distinction between the terrorist, and the country that harbors him. " Again, I see no loophole. Do you? How about this one? "God may have mercy on your souls. We... . will not. " Again, no double-talk.

We, however, have not received warnings of that quality and clarity. Will we stoop? Yes, to some degree, in comparison to ur earlier efforts. Even by comparison our "stooping" still will not be as low as those who are our enemies.

Quoting our favorite truck company: "The Rules Have Changed"

bin laden

it's hard to threaten people who get a special place in heaven, when they die for Allah. good old fashioned torture would be the best for bin laden, keeping him alive to suffer as long as possible. unfortunately that would violate his civil rights and the ACLU would come to his defense. i too am the person who almost cries when i see a dog or deer dead on the highway, so, i am about as non-violent as they come. i doubt that the american government (no matter who is pres) has the stomach to extract real "justice" for this atrocity. bush better kick some a$$e$ over this one, or the good ole USA is going to lose face in the world community, and we will be viewed as wusses and sissies. :(

These guys don't learn lessons. Period.

They are spread around the world like metastasized cancer.

Hey, they took up residence in the US, and had flight training in the US. They have done this in probably every country in the world.

You have misunderstood. It's not a NICE approach, it's just that levelling a country won't do ANYTHING to solve it.

Most of them have already probably left the country anyway.

It's a different kind of war, and must be fought differently.

It's like the war against drugs in some respects. Eliminating a country won't stop the drug trade.

Eliminating a country won't stop terrorism either.

I hope no one is naive enough to believe this.

It will darn sure the terrorism from that country.

KABUL, Afghanistan (news - web sites) (AP) - Afghanistan's ruling Taliban militia warned Friday of ``revenge'' if the United States attacks it for harboring Osama bin Laden (news - web sites), the main suspect in the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington.

=====================================

The only way that Afghanistan can "revenge" an attack by the US would be through more terroristic attacks.

Everyone knows that a bunch of sheep fvkkrs are too coward to face you head on!

If it takes killing every last Afghan Taliban and Osama bin Laden supporter, I say go to it!

Shawn, you have the right to speak your mind and I read what you had to say.

Terrorism will never be eliminated. But Osama bin Laden will not be around to direct the attacks, as well as a lot of his followers and supporters.

It's kinda like the little boy that was trying to throw all the crabs that were drying up and dying back into the ocean. The beach was literally covered with thousands of the dying crabs. A mature wise gentleman told the little boy his effort was fruitless. The little boy just picked up another crab and tossed it back into the ocean and said, well maybe so, but I just saved that ONE.

Well, if we have to eliminate these guys one at a time and there is significant collateral damage, so be it. A wise man will get out of the way when the target is close to him. Don't sleep in bin Laden's tent. Don't camp in his campground.

... and don't mess around with Jim!

I have a son, relatives and friends in the military. They are ready!

Shaun,

I enjoy reading your thoughts on the whole subject, even though Canada is not a target and you are, for the most part, safe and sound.

The Taleban has gone on TV and Radio and called all its people to rise up and destroy the enemy. That enemy they speak of is me.

Millions of Muslin people Shaun

This entire mess is mostly over religious differences and it will always go on. If we crush the countries involved in killing us, remember we are at war, we have less to worry about from them. Less Muslims = less soldiers to fight us later.

This will not be solved by arresting and punishing the guilty party.

There are plenty of soldiers out there that did not do anything yet.

We cant arrest them, but we can kill the I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER out of them.

If you have not figured it out yet, let me make myself clear. I have a blood lust greater than you can imagine for the soldiers and the countries that harbor the soldiers that did this.

We killed alot of Japs (including women and children) with Nukes in WW2 and they quickly threw in the towel. This is WAR and all things in WAR are nasty and dirty. Lets get it over with and stop the crap now.

Dragging it out is only going to result in the death of more Americans. I do not want to loose one more American to these soldiers. If it means turning the entire middle east into a rubble pile, then so be it.

Syria, Egypt, Pakistan, Afghanistan, etc. all helped harbor and funnel money to the soldiers and still are. They are the enemy to our freedom and way of life. They need to be checked!!!

You say most of them have probably already left the country anyway... well most of the population of the country is still there and they are and have been harboring soldiers. Feeding, housing, providing support and money, you name it. They are just as guilty as the soldiers that did it. Nobody with common sense can deny this.

The notion that they value life as we do is crazy. They do not. They do not even share our same values of life, freedom, etc. Freedom to them is a different thing. They hate and when I say "they", I mean all Muslims in general, everything we love.

Freedom to move around, make choices, etc.

We will never get along with them Shaun.

It is high time we concede the Muslims in general are our enemies and we ARE at WAR.

What is left, negotiations? arrest and punish?

None of these will work and never have. We still get killed in our own country dont we?

These countries did not ever try, with any ferver, to find these soldiers while they are there and stop them. Instead they harbored, feed, supplied money, etc. to them. KNowing full well they were going to do harm to American citizens. What else do they have to do to us? In my opinion they have done plenty.

This latest battle is only the begining. We just lost thousands of people in a battle they brought to our country. Its time to bring it to theirs.

Don~

enough

i agree that killing a few, or a few thousand, or even a hundred thousand of those responsible for this won't stop terrorism. but it sure will cut down on the number still available to act like the cowards they have shown themselves to be!!!:(
