Installed BD Shortshift Kit- Wow!

Since there is not a Cummins dealer close to my house what other brands of filters (Fuel ,Oil) are good ones? Someone mentioned Baldwin to me but no fuel filter available.

If you have a big truck dealer close (Pete, Freightliner, or ... ... ), you can get them there. The oil filters you can also get from some farm equipment dealers (C-IH in particular (they're Fleetguard), and I have gotten some from the Deere dealer.

Use the distributor locators to help find the closest one to you.

You can order Fleetguard's through Geno's. I won't use anything else.

You guys beat me to it! I went to get a beer, came back and posted!

I get my fleetguard's by the case, cheaper, and you always have one.

A case of fuel filters last about 6 years.

A case of oil filters last about 2 years.

Case lots at any of the places listed above.

I did not want my local Freightliner dealer to have to stock the filter just for me is why I get a case at a time.

Wix are good filters, Napa Gold are Wix.

If oil analysis is any indication I haven't seen any difference in the results between Wix and Fleetguard.

With all the rigs I run/maintain price is a major consideration. Local auto parts has a once a year one day only 90% off Wix sale where I load up. The around $400 I spend per year vs. $4000 normal price is nothing to pass up. I think this a promotion Wix does nationwide every spring. I just get my list in beforehand and the auto parts orders for me on the right day.

If Fleetguard had such a sale I'd use them.

If you're only talking one truck use Fleetguard.

Order Fleetguards from Geno's. It's quick, painless and the filters are at your door in a couple of days.

I've seen Fleetguard make filters for WIX... . such as the fuel/water seperator filter for the Cummins ISC... but not the other way around. The Napa Gold fuel filter for the ISC has Napa Gold label, WIX logo in small type, and a Stratapore Inside logo too. Napa Gold tech line told me the blueprints said "manufactured by Fleetguard" when I asked about it. Heck... the Napa Gold version is better anyway cause they ship a new water sensor with it. Fleetguard makes you re-use your old one.

Wix, Fleetguard, Napa Gold are all good filters. My truck had a Hastings oil filter on it when I bought it. Those are decent too.

I would like to see some emperical evidence on why fleetguard is better than napa. The fact that cummins reccomends them doesn't count, because who knows what kind of marketing arrangement they have w/ each other. I use napa gold because they are easy to get and a good filter.

In general the FLeetguards are considered the best by many. I use them myself and have no problems. I agree. But they are not the only good filter out there. I would completely feel comfortable with a WIX/Napa Gold on there. Wix/Napa Gold are high quality (Dana Corporation) and lots of big rig trucks use them. We use the Napa Gold Extended Drain (black canisters) versions on our fire trucks with complete trust.

If I ever find I dont have a Fleetguard available on a Sunday afternoon, I'll drive right to Napa and get theirs. Its not a junk filter.

I order my LF3894's through work by the half case for $5. 00 each. I cant pass that up. In my case I've chosen to save money over the Napa Gold by going with Fleetguard. :)

Actually, Fleetguard filters are made by the filtration products division of Cummins. HERE is a link to the Cummins filtration products website.

I compared the Wix, Hastings, and the Baldwin and the Baldwin and Hastings have more and larger holes in the top of the filter for letting the oil pass in and out, thgis to me looks like an improvement, over wix but since I just found out that there is a Fleetguard dealer about 20 miles away I guess I'll start using fleetguard. Still no impressions about the Baldwin filter maybe it's a regional company and not very widespread .

Baldwin filters are good ones. Use them mostly on the semi trucks.

On my Dodge, I have used Wix, Baldwin (BT339), and Stratapore or Micro-glass Fleetguard filters. The Fleetguards SEEM to keep the oil clearer longer than the others I have used.

I have used Baldwin Oil Filters for 5 yrs. Never tested Fleetguard but have cut open Baldwins and compared to most common national brands -they are far superior and only a buck or so more.

They are a quiet mid-western company, but very well known in truck fleet and industrial machinery circles.

I use the Baldwin fuel filter also-they do make one for CTD.

I know Fleetguard is good because of all the comments on the TDR. I know Baldwin is good from personal expirience. Don't think you could go wrong either way.
