OUCH!!!!!!!

Got my first real dent in my truck today at work. I usually park my truck next to the loading dock, so this guy comes in with a flat bed with a ton of junk on it, took him a couple of minutes just to get to the bottle of nitrogen to trade out. So we trade out the bottle I go in and write the ticket while he puts everything back on his truck, he comes in signs for it and takes off. Well about 20 mins latter he calls and tell me that while he was putting stuff back on his truck a pipe somehow slid off and hit my hood. I go out and check it out, yep nice half pipe dent in my hood that goes down to the metal where the pipe hit. Well he says sorry and tell me and that he or his company will pay for it. So I spent most of this afternoon getting estimate and talking to his company's insurance go get this think worked out. Lowest I could find to get it done was $450 and they where going just repaint the area around it and clear coat the hood, other two places where around 600 there where repainting the hood and fender so it would blend. I wouldnt mind that but being the truck is only 5 months old I dont think it should have any body filler and blend work done on something that wasnt my fault so Im going to see if I can get a new hood out of this. Sorry about the rant so here is a picture for all the trouble it took to read this.

Dent in hood

Sorry to hear about the dent in your hood. I had a similar thing happen to mine when it was only 2 months old. Mine was not quite as bad as yours, but the paint people told me to make it look good as well as make it last, the entire hood had to be repainted and then gel coated. I had them do it, and it looks better than new, and so far it is still looking good! Its been 14 Months now.

The guy called you and was honest! That counts for something.

I've had several bigger dents which no one ever came forward on, and I had to pay for myself.

He called, and thats honest??

He should have come right back inside and told you when it happened, not 20 minutes later when he's 10 miles down the road...

I'd want a new hood too.

It would have ben better if the guy had talked to you face to face but at least you got the Insurance guys on it. I had a brand new Chevy once first day out in the truck. Stopped in for a bite to eat and came out after lunch to find someone had kick a dent in the door. No body around, no witness, just a nice waffle mark from an admirer! now I aways sit with a view of big red! Sorry about your trouble, get what you want out of the insurance guys!

Yeah I still dont understand that whole call 20 mins latter, he said he had to talk to his boss to see if the company was going to cover it or if he was going to have to but hey at lest he called thats how I see it. Im the kind of guy that dosent get mad about stuff like that, I see it as hey stuff like that happens to everyone and Ill probably end up doing somthing like that someday so I would rather deal with a nice calm person like me then someone who will chew my head off. Im going to be out of town all next week so I will talk to the clams rep when I get back and see what I can get. I hope I can get a new hood, body filler shouldnt go on a truck 5 months old for something that wasnt your fault.

Yes he should have, but I was giving the guy the benefit of the doubt.

He could also have driven off and never done anything, but he was man enough to make the call.

I had somebody kick in the driver's door of my '95 2500 in 2001, had somebody else put a grapefruit sized dent in my restored '54 Cheby 3/4 ton--never had anybody own up to either one. The Chebby I fixed myself, my D/C I took to the body shop. I wish someone had been man enough to own up to either one--they could still do it and make me happy--it ain't too late in my book to ever make amends.

Yup it hurts, been there and done that. Four months old and 10K in damage through my own stupidity. My 97 rolled down a hill after I unhitched my trailer.

Considering the age of the truck you should have the hood replaced, not repaired. And like Nick said, you might want to spring for a few extra bucks to have the SR-10 hood put on it you are inclined to that sort of thing. Casey

Called you 20 min after leaving ? Sounds like a case of guilty conscious finally took over. Sorry man- hate to see that kind of thing happen to anyone. Your body filler comment made my neck hair stand up. That dent should be pulled out, not filled. Filler in a hood is a no-no. First time its slammed, and you get to do it again. Replacing it would be another good option. Good luck-

I would insist on a new hood and like the post above theres a real good chance the body filler could give you problems later on. Maybe you'll get a insurance adjuster like I had a few years ago when the kid down the street from me ran into my parked Blazer out by the curb. Done $2100. 00 in damage to it. Adjuster came out in a couple of days and almost done a song and dance routine to satisfy me, super nice guy, cut me two checks on the spot, one for damage, and one for a rental car. He said if any thing else comes up to call them. This was the kid's insurance company, not mine. Oo.

My '03 hemi got hit when it was only three weeks old. Guy clipped the front end from the left side. ALMOST missed it. Didn't even get the grill. Just the bumper cover and reinforcing bar and that black piece that lays flat on the top of the cover. Oh, also the filler piece in the cover. All new stuff, no repairs. Had the shop paint all the black the flame red color. Came out really sharp looking. Then about two months later, I came out after grocery shopping and found a big "Z" shaped groove gouged into the LR quarter and the left tail light laying on the bumper. Naturallly no note, no one saw anything. In addition having no guts (compared to the CTD), that truck was just bad luck.

Talked to the insurance company the other day and they had the clames rep give me a call today. She told me that it will all be covered and that there is a shop in town that all I have to do is take them the truck and clames # and they fix it no quesoitns asked and then bill the insurance company. It was one of the places I had an estamet done and was real impresed with there shop and work area along with some work I have seen. Was also told that if I pic another place they will have to come look at the truck to see how bad the damage is and they let me get it fixed. So it looks like when I get back from spring break I will go to the first place and just talk to them about getting a new hood so I wont even have to deal with the insurance company and get me a new hood:D

Me Too!

Truck is 1 week old. I pulled into a spot at Target, car beside me pulled out wheels cranked and hit my rear door, rear of cab, and bed. Called the insurance company today and hope to hear from them Monday. I was so ******. Sucks to get a dent in a week old truck by someone not bothering to pay attention. I mean how can you not see one of these trucks.

I think the bigger the vehicle, the harder it is to see. Stories like this are why I park as far from people as possible.

I do that and still got some admirers footprint and dent on the rear passenger door. The first and only ding in the truck in 6 months. I am still POed, and wishing we could get reactive armor on our trucks. People just don't respect other peoples property anymore. And it never fails, I park in the farthest reach of the lot and still find someone that has to park next to me, with a wide range of open spaces between me and the next closest car. Like it's magnetic or something. What can you do? I hope I can get mine fixed with the paintless dent removal method. It was in the salt and scratched the clear coat also, but I buffed that out. Now just the dent remains.

Yeah tell me about it. I was working with my Verizon van up in Alexandria during the sniper times and someone stole the headlights off my workvan. I have never really been to a big city before and I really don't want to go back ! Where I live now there is more dirt roads then tar or paved I guess.
