Our New Family Member

Had to post new pictures of our new Lab. Last year we lost both Buck & Tye and it was heart breaking for me and Rose. Buck the passed away last spring and we lost Tye this past summer. Buck was going on 15 and Tye was to be 14. We raised them both up out of the litter. Some of you have had pups come and go and know how it feels to loose one when their time has come. It literally ripped my heart out to loose them both in the same year. After a few months of petless quiet we decided to start filling that gap we were left with. After allot of thought about what do you want to spend the next 15 plus years with? A new puppy, different breed, dog pound, or rescue, we decided to look at rescues. We come real close to getting a Blue Tick Pup from Ray at Blue Tick Kennels here in SC. We found a place in Georgia not far from us called Labrador Friends of the South and low and behold they are in Cumming, GA. They have some beautiful dogs there and by going the rescue route I feel like we saved one from being put down. Well we have had Daisy in the house for a little over a month now and she is amazingly a spittin image of Buck with Tye's personality. It is almost spooky allot of the things she does is identical to way Buck or Tye would do things. It's better now that that dogless quiet is gone and I am glad we looked into the rescue program for pets.

Congratulations on a great pup! I'll bet Daisy would love a brother or sister...



But be careful, pet rescueing can get out of hand, my house has become a zoo. Current count: a black lab, a cairn terrier, a beagle/aussie mix, two sulfur crested cockatoos, and two cats

Sam, I know what you mean. Your mind starts wondering down the path of,"one won't be any harder than two". But yes, I do see allot of really nice pups that need a home for all the wrong reasons. Before we got Daisy there where 3 (2 Yellows, 1 Choc) 6 month old Lab puppies at our local County pound. After seeing her picture and vitals we had decided to go ahead and get the Chocolate. We called the next day to get the pound hours and to tell them we were coming and they said the Chocolate was missing???? That's when we decided to look at dogs who were in a "rescue" situation. Sam, I give you allot of credit for what you are doing. I couldn't be a foster home I get way too attached to them.

I have a real soft spot for labs. When I was little, my dad owned a duck hunting club and we raised quite a few labs. I never cared to much for the hunting part, I usually played with the dogs and drove the tractors around. Blacks were always my favorite, chocolates were my second.



I don't really call myself a foster, pet's show up at my house and never seem to leave. I live at the end of a cul de sac street, off a busy road. The traffic scares any loose dogs up my street and into my yard. This happens four or five times a year, we take them in. Most have a tag, we call the owners and have seen quite a few touching reunions in our yard. We hang on the the untagged ones, put up posters, craiglist ads, etc. We never take them to the pound, here in So Cal, it is usually a death sentence if that happens. Most of the time we can find a home for them with new owners. When we can't... well you see how many pets I have now.



This little guy showed up yesterday, collar no tag, well kept. My gut feeling is somebody took his license off and cut him loose. Got the ads and posters up late yesterday and we hope someone claims him, but if not... . I think I'm going to call him "Tank"

That breaks my heart that someone could just go and cut a dog loose, or any pet for that matter for what ever reason to survive on it's own. The rescue folks we got Daisy from thought she had been on the loose running for approx one week due to the physical condition she was in. When we 1st got her she had been in care for approx one month and had put some weight on and was in good physical condition. When she was on the run that was the end of July when we were on the 90's and in the middle of a severe drought. I know she is a survivor though when we walk her on a leash here, unless we stop her, she will eat crickets, cameloions, spiders, and anything that moves. With the speed she has she can easily catch and kill squirrels on the run. She runs with me on the 4 wheeler now and she runs at 25 mph, and she gets there quick! While she was in survival mode I believe she was self taught to stalk anything she considered edible. We have had her now for a little over a month and I can see quit a noticable difference in her that he is loosing some of the wild she had in her when we 1st got her. She knows that this is her home now and she is doing a good job of settling down. She knows where the biscuit bins are in the house in various locations and out in the garage and she will sit and point just like Buck and Tye used to do. She is very smart and is becoming easily trained to verbal commands and hand signals. Sam, I have to say, good for you and what you do for lost animals.

We have not received a single call about the pup so far. But we did find a great home for him with a little old lady who will spoil him rotten. Come Monday, if no one claims him by then, he starts his new life. Cute little guy, will miss him.

Labs should be renamed lap dogs mine dont think that they are as big as the are. We let them in the house at nite cause of the cold they just have to be next to ya
