There I was, driving serenely along on I-10 between my home in Arizona and my home in California in my freshly-purchased '01 3500 4x4, enjoying the pleasant 1850 rpm throb of the Cummins - about 70 mph - and the cool dark night of the Great American Desert.
I pulled around a slower-moving Peterbilt, and when safely in front, pulled back over into the number 2 lane, guided by the Pete driver's thoughtful flashing of his headlights. In graditude, I turned on my emergency flashers... and nothing happened. Ok, well, not serious, I thought, I just won't get in an emergency tonight.
That would've been fine, except that when the e-flashers went, they took my turn signals and brake lights with them. I discovered this 50 miles downrange, when a helpful highway patrol officer pointed out that he had nearly rear-ended my truck coming down the offramp.
Over coffee, I thought about this. I could understand the e-flashers being connected to the turn signals, obviously, but the brake lights? Anyway, I went back outside, checked the fuses (all good), fiddled around with the 4-way switch on the column, and got the turn and brake lights back...
Has this ever happened to you? Or anyone you know? I've ordered a new 4-way flasher, but I'm wondering if this is a common occurrance.
