I started my truck this am with 45 miles to empty showing on the overhead. Started fine and ran for about 2 minutes and died. I retried starting 3-4 times and each time engine ran for a shorter amount of time. I put in 5 gals of diesel and retried with same result. So I opened up the yellow valve on fuel filter and heard air like it was sucking for an instant. With the valve left open I cranked engine and got a little fuel but nothing like I should. Now I am getting nothing from the water separator valve and engine will not fire. Also engine is throwing no codes at all. Pls help!!

Bump the starter

Turn the key to the run position, wait about 2 seconds. You will hear the electric fuel pump run. Bump the sarter by taking the key to start and let it return to run. The fuel pump will run for 60 seconds. After it stops try again to start the truck. If it still won't start repeat the above by turning the key off and back on.

Seperator valve

You should be able to close it, the system is supposed to be self venting. A couple of times bumping the starter should get you going. Ken Irwin

Thanks for the info, worked!!!!!!

Thanks for the help. It took me 3 tries via your procedure but my truck fired on the third try and all is well. Oo.

I'm glad you got it started. You might not want to depend on the overhead computer to get you to the diesel pump "just in time. " Diesels don't like it when you run them out of fuel... :)

I had the same problem when I had my 01. I never was able to get it started, went to the dealer paid 100. 00 unfortunately. Computer said 25 miles, went 4 miles, ran out. Lesson learned...
