And they are telling me TUFF. No way to reverse it. I say this is my own personal property and I have documented proof that I said not to do it. I did not ask for my property to be altered in any way !! Do I have any rights here? I did not buy this product like this and if the government or any agency is going to FORCE me to alter my property they should have to give me full purchase price for my truck. I am so frustrated.

I *****ed and argued and told them to keep the f-ing truck they told me they would put a new ecm in it and all is well to this day :)

After having a recall on our Dodge Intrepid on the shift position switch, it has never been the same. No problem with the 04 CTD unless I try to move it into park mode too fast. Seems these 48RE transmissions are slower to select than my old 1st. gener was or the 47RE. Possibly too many electronic gizmo's on these newer trucks.

I also had to sign a release after my refusal to have the recall installed. Just my opinion here.

I was worried when I went to get the door molding replaced that they would go against my wishes and do the recall for the park brake warning. However, the service advisor agreed that it was a real pain in the *** especially when hooking up a trailer. The dealer must make money from DC for each one they "fix".

You can bypass the out of park alarm if you disconnect the electrical wire that goes to the seat belt and install a jumper wire across the two posts. Takes no more than five minutes to perform. It also solves that irritating seat belt chime too. :)

After my 05 almost ran over me when it was supposed to be in park I was hoping DC would come up with fix for an obvious design or mfg. defect. Trucks and Autos have been built with automatic transmissions for over 50 years without having to put annoying horn honking gimmicks to insure the gear selector is in the proper position! This horn honking "safety" recall is an annoying and often embarrasing joke!

Good luck getting any mfr. to reverse an "update". They worry more about product liability than your rights, wishes, or whose truck it is.

I found this out the hard way when Ford offered to buy back a truck rather than reverse an unwanted reflash of the PCM.

Somebody in the aftermarket needs to get smart and offer a backup device so you can make a backup copy of the code in your machine and restore it if the dealer screws with your vehicle.

I see a business opportunity here for somebody like Marco.

Of course they get paid to do recalls. I never asked a customer if he wanted one done or not. We just DID them. Period. By law its a given.

Buddy of mine with an 04 Hemi showed me he can turn the key to the point where the IP dies out and it stops recording mileage but doesn't lock the steering and you can drive.

I wonder if there's more to this than safety?

You can do that with lots of vehicles. Use to have customers with LOTS of keys hanging come in in a panic cause dash, odometer,ac etc. were inop but auto ran. Felt/moved the igntion and LORD it was healed. LOL

from my understanding it would depend on how the call it. by law they have to do as you say so if you say not to do it the have to not do it. but the flip side is if it is a safty issue then they can not release the truck to you till you have the proper ''fix'' done to make it safe. there are a few other loop holes on both sides of the argument and there are a couple different arguments that can be made for both sides so its hard to say who would win. personaly i go after them till they either fixed the problem or a judge said they are right. i think though that you have a leg to stand on and a chance of getting this reversed if you want to.

There is a small blurb in the newest TDR about this. Says they have to do it because it's a safety thing. I think it's dangerous. Scare the carp out of some big dude because your horn honks at him? He may kick your butt!

Where is this wire located? at seat belt, fuse box, or under dash etc. ? Thanks

Yep, that's right and it also gets rid of the "little red man" light on the instrument panel. :D

My truck's had that "unauthorized modification"" since I brought it home from the dealer.

The electrical connector you need to disconnect is at the seat belt lock under the drivers seat. I took a 2 inch piece of speaker wire and pulled a couple of strands out. This allows you to fold it into a loop and then slide each end over the top of each post in the connector. Hope this helps.

The wife took mine to dealer for an oil change, they came out and offered to do it while she waited, but she said no way, he will go wild if you do that recall. The service writer said OK, we have had to reverse a couple of them for people who didn't ask for it. Interesting note, a few days later I got a survey asking how I was treated on my recent warranty service, think they billed DC?
