Ha ha, I found this pretty funny.

Called a 5 star dealer in Alameda County this afternoon. Here's what I was quoted for servicing my truck:

Oil change $ 79. 95

Rear diff $189. 95

Front diff $189. 95

X-fer case $129. 95

Transmission $169. 95

Baaaaaaahahhhaaahahaha!!!!! Over $800 after tax! Like I'm going to pay this! I did not even bother to ask about the fuel filter.

Looks I'm going to be able to justify to the boss my purchase of my new PML diff covers and Fast Coolers by doing the service myself!

I tell you, I'm in the wrong business...

My beef is with the extra cost of the oil change.

Granted a good brand of 15-40 is going to run you $25 (as apposed to $10 for the Hemi) and $8 for the filter (as apposed to $4 for the hemi)... ... .

So that means the $19 more for the diesel over the Hemi... .....

Not at my Dealer

Hemi "with Coupon" --- $19. 99

Diesel "With Coupon"---- $74. 99

When I asked why the difference I got the old "diesel mechanics cost more"... ... yeah right.

yeah. . cali sucks. they wont change my spedo for free... . bastids.

i ned to take it to the dealer i bought it from i think.

Grant

My A/C is acting up, took it to the local 5 star dealership. They think it is a fin sensor... $890. to replace the ($23. 00) sensor and 160. for an A/C service, check and add refrigerant. $1050. total! Oh and my extended warranty doesn't cover it!

This seems like highway robbery to me!

The dealer I did business with in Chico Calif, (Chuck Patterson Dodge) was basically the same. . I had a fuel filter changed and it was $100!!!!!

Here in Grants Pass oregon, I deal with Lithia Dodge. There sales Department is full of brain dead liars and total jerks. On the other hand, they have a first rate service department! I always give 6 star ratings when I go in for anything with my Dodge and the wifes Sebring. Oil Change on my Cummins is $40. Oil change on my Sebring is $20. You really can't beat that! Just stay away from any Lithia sales department, unless you feel like going to the Circus! :-laf

If you bought the D/C maxicare 7/100 warranty as I did you would have been covered. I just looked it up. They must have sold you a drivetrain warranty or some dufas after market warranty like Western General. That is why I ALWAYS get the D/C Maxi Care zero deductable warranty. Its Bumper to Bumper and first day rental included. Nothing out of my pocket.

$39. 95 w/coupon at my dealership. I don't think I could do it for that cheap myself

Actually... If your just talking about changing your oil, it can be done for about $26 (3 gals of Delo 400 = $18 + Fleetguard oil filter = $8)... ;)

My dealer has been doing Cummins Oil and Lub for $26. 95 since at least February. Drive up any time and 25 minutes and go. They will be doing my oil changes for as long as they do it for this price.

BTW I asked what the cost to do a Fuel Filter change since I was there, answer $89+tax. They will not be doing fuel filter changes.

Just looked up the Mopar fuel filter 5015581AB. It has a dealer net of $22. 39 and a retail of $37. 35.

If the dealer changed it under warranty where DC pays 40% markup, it is $31. 34 for the filter. Warranty time for filter/housing replace is . 5 hrs, and most dealers in the bay area are at $100/hr+ for warranty, thats another $50. 00, for a total of $81. 34. Not sure I agree that is a reasonable price, but that is what DC says is reasonable for the dealer to charge them.

I'll never believe that the dealer pays $22. 39 for that filter... .

We had a TDR event at a dealer in So Cal last year. Foothill Dodge in Santa Margarite. I took my truck to them since I had an emergency 3000 mile trip come up & I wanted it changed before the drive. I mentioned TDR on the phone and got $52 / no coupon. I wasn't unhappy about that. I have the filters and the oil sitting in the garage, but they hosted a good event & I'd recommend them for So Cal & even for that price and the free wash they throw in, I thought it worth it. I drove by the dealer 5 blocks from my house, and another along the way.

I got my first oil change free at Bankston Dodge in Dallas... and they threw in a free truck detail. I also got the second oil change free because I brought the survey in... and free truck detail. You folks are just dealing with the wrong folks...come to Texas... they know how to treat folks.

RJOL

He may get incentives for purchasing in quanity, but regardless, dealer net is what all dealers pay before any additional discounts. Smaller dealers are probably never going to save more than 10% or so if anything.

Exactly what I've been doing.

I just figured I'd ask as I was planning on having some warranty items addressed at the same time.

Rob Pratt is the man! He's the one that told me they were already replacing lift pumps on 3G's and that I should get a fuel pressure guage installed. That's a service advisor with his head and heart in the right place.

BTW, my '03 is for sale too. Loaded with goodies and asking 26K. It has 35,900 on the Odometer. Clean as a whistle.

Ive been dealing with Rob Pratt for 2 years now. His word is gold as I see it. Straight shooter! Also, I must give a good word for his boss, Bill Miller. He has seen to it that every problem is taken care of no matter what! That is how a dealership service department should be! Like I have stated before, Grants Pass Lithia Service is 6 Star! I highly recomend them! :D :D :D

I wish someone had glowing remarks about any dealers around here...

I'd gladly pay the price if I trusted the dealership. Last time I paid for a 15k service with trans/trans/diff/diff service, I looked under my truck and everything was dry. No sign of them touching anything. I'm hesitant to do that again...
