Outside Thermometer Readings

Coming home from Tahoe on Saturday, my outside temperature read 111 at Auburn then 113 in Roseville where the time temp tower read 112. West of Roseville it dropped to 111 and stayed there all the way to Danville (about 100 miles) where it finally dropped to 108 then 106 as I pulled up to my house. My outdoor thermometer in my house read 99. No way was the temp 111 for 100 miles... no variation. The gauge seems to stick at 66, 77, 88, 99. 101. and 111.



Does anyone else notice this or is mine just flakey?

I noticed the one on my wife's 03 showed 101' but three different banks in town read 96'. I thought I wanted to go to a junkyard or buy the new parts to install the overhead computer in my 02, but now I think I'll shine it on.

Mine was stuck on 88 yesterday and as i drove by bank sign it said 104... . It reset after i turned the truck off a couple of times.

mines lazy, seems to take a good 5 minuites for an accurate reading. will jump 10° in a few miles drive...

after my old '02 had been running about 5 mins the overhead was right on the money. my new '06 seems to give crazy readings sometimes the truck must run for at least 15mins before things tend to level out. the reading also seems to stick sometimes, also my overhead mpg reading is at least 2mpg lower than actual.

damn... ..... and those of us in the PNW start crying when we hit 81... ...



My 03's temp guage was ALWAYS right on the money, even right after startup in the morning. My 06 takes a good five minutes at least. It also has quirks - they other day it was @90, and the guage read -49.

Hey Jack! ... . darn, wheres that smilie guy that wiggles his backside when you need him ! Heck, mines been reading well above 100*for months now it seems, even stays over 100* at 2 in the freakin' morning!!

Also take these two things into consideration before worrying about your temp guage. Somewhere in the owners manual I read that the temp gauge doesn't start to calibrate and read correctly until you get to speeds over 30 MPH. Also, here's the big one. Most bank sign thermometers are mounted 6 to 8 feet above the ground. Thats the standard to keep radiating heat from the ground from interfering with the actual ambient air temperature. Your temp sensor is mounted maybe 4 feet high and you're always on asphault or some type of pavement. The temp guage is almost always going to read higher than a bank sign or weather sensor when it's extremely hot out. Hope this helps.

I am an air conditioning contractor in Roseville Ca and yes it was 113 on Saturday and 115 on Sunday

85 deg f here and mine read -40f and c so its right 2 places in the world

I have seen banks right next door to each other read different temps. I never trusted banks. I have jumped in my car and it said 111, drive few miles, let the air move around the truck, it drops 10-20 degrees depending on how sunny it's out.



I will look at the weather.com readings for temps. It tells me it's 95 out, with in a few miles, my truck will say 95. If it's 97 in the city where I live, it will read 97 as I pull in my driveway.



it's a consistant 2 degrees temp difference between my work and home. 95 vs 97 or -17 vs -15

My 06 and my buddies 06 mega have both gone from 87 to -40 in a matter of minutes for no reason. Told the dealer and they didnt have a clue. I dont rely on the temp reading unless I am on the highway anyway.

Was doing a little underhood cleanup today and noticed where the temp sensor is (at least it looks like it could be the sensor).

On our '06 it is between the left headlight and the AC condensor/intercooler/radiator sandwich. Not exactly what I would consider to be an accurate temp sensing location, especially at various speeds or sitting still while idling. It does get pretty warm under there.
