update...cab light soga continues
I spoke to the boys at Hella us again today. They claim that they had not heard back from mexico yet... . So being the impatient kind that I am I looked up the phone # for the mx plant and gave them a call to see what the hold up was. . My spanish is not very good but I was able to get my point across. . The woman that I spoke to was very eagar to to help. She told me that the national sales manager was out of town at a trade show but would contact him and give him the info... . With in an hour I got an email from him. I then replied. . I posted the text below from the emails ..... I know we will get results now... Stay tuned for more on this... .

Dear Alfredo,
Thank you for your prompt attention on this matter... The light in question would be an aftermarket item. Chrysler used their own log/trademark on the lenses. The one in the photo has your logo and the SAE #... I assume that it has to be your die and not Chryslers... . Chrysler's also were never chrome. They were grey plastic finish as they would have come out of the mold... The light was used from 1976 to 1993 on all Dodge trucks 10,000 lb. GVW and up. I am sure that others used it but I do not know who they would have been.
Let me know what you find out about the light in question... The people in the USA location can not seem to be able to figure it out... I am still researching as to what the Hella part # is. . If I find it I will let you know. If you need me to resend the photo's to you directly let me know and I will.
Thank you and Miss Corinna for your prompt attention on this matter. I look forward to working with you in the future.
Sincerely... ///Terry E.

we are talking about chrome lights . But I am a bit concerned about chromium over plastic for the long haul. . It will NEVER hold up outside much past 10 years. . Especially in the south western states... . ABS plastic literally evaporates with time... It also shrinks while doing so... . Just look at the plastic strip above your windshield that holds up the head liner..... Almost every one of them is broken in several pieces... . The reason is as the solvent in the plastic evaporates
the strip shrinks or lets say it gets shorter lenth wise... . The screws that hold it up do not move ... . hence the strip splits as it shrinks ... . Lets say I took a 12 years old strip and measured the centerlines of the screw holes. Then did the same on a strip that was made last week... The center lines of the screw holes would be closer together on the old strip... .
Chromium is metal... it will not shrink. but is is brittle and will break... ABS will shrink and becomes more brittle as it ages..... As the plastic shrinks the chromium looses its bond and or cracks from the stress of being moved... ...
Just look at all the 91 92 and 93 grills that were chrome... . Most all of them that are 10 years or older that have been kept outside have the chrome peeling off of them now.....
Why chromium over plastic... ... . There are two reasons, 1) It looks good.
2) it seals the plastic and slows down the evaporation/shrinkage problem considerably!!! Some of you may have (or had) a 91/2/3 truck with a factory painted grill... Early on the painted grills were discontinued and all that was available was the chrome..... The reason was because the painted grills were cracking up in the SW states while still under warrantee..... The discission was made to Chrome them all to slow down the process and reduce claims as well as complaints !..... But the original plan was to paint them all to keep costs down... . The chrome was just to fix the problem after the fact... .
In conclusion: The plastic parts are going to be a big problem in the years to come for these trucks..... There are not enough of these trucks out there for anyone to want to reproduce the parts..... I could do a lot of the parts in question. . But if the part is not some thing I want for myself I doubt that I will want to be bothered or invest the money in doing it... . Consumers in general are cheap and have no clue what it takes or costs to manufacture a part!!
I also have very short patients for clueless people in general... .
The projects that I do for myself for these trucks cost me a lot of $ and time to do... ... Any of my FRIENDS are welcome to get on board when I am doing them... . In the future I think it would be best to send me an email ,pm or call me on the phone to express your interest or discuss the details... ... .
I say this because there are a select few on this board that whine and gripe about anyone that might be offering anything for sale or what ever in this section... ... Those of you that have. I have kept on my list of "people not to help" for future reference.....
Stay tuned for the conclusion to great light soga..... More on monday... ...
