2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission over center adj

When doing the "over center" adjustment on the steering box specifically what type of torque wrench do you need to use? I can't seem to find one in the in-lb range that I think would work.

9. Install and tighten the locknut to 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs. ). Be sure adjustment cap does not turn while tightening the locknut.



10. Install the intermediate shaft onto the shaft splines of the steering gear. Install new pinch bolt, p/n 06504926AA, on the intermediate shaft and torque to 36 ft. lbs (49 NM).

Where did you see inch pounds? I only see ft pounds and Newton meters.



BTW, to convert in/pounds into ft/pounds, divde in/lbs by 12. Remember 12 inches in a foot. For instance, 80 ft/lbs/ 12= 6. 667 ft/lbs. 36/12=3, that sort a thing.

Here's where I got the in-lbs, page 8. The way I read this you adjust the worm thrust bearing first before doing the over-center adjustment. .

You read it right. The end play must be set first. Otherwise the over-center will be too tight and will cause major problems.

That one is in foot-lbs. I think it may be hard to read 8 - 10 in-lbs on the scale. I have a 150 fo-lb torque wrench and the smallest division is 5 ft-lbs which is 80 in-lbs. Thanks for the suggestion.
