Any thing good or bad about putting an elbow in the fill hole of the NV5600 and extending it up about two inches for more fluid capacity.

Good things could include:

better cooling due to more fluid to dissipitate heat better.

better lubing?

Maybe better shifting quality?

Bad things???

I know about the fast coolers and filter to add more fluid but I'am a cheap butt.

The bad things could include... ... ... ... ... . oil foaming due to overfilling... ... ... ... ... ... . limited space for heat expansion, causing seals to go out. I may be wrong on this. But when you add fast coolers, you are adding air space as well as oil capacity. These are just my opinions. Someone with more wisdom on the subject will prob. chime in.

everything stated was correct, the transmission does not need the extra capacity it needs quality oil! over filling will cause big problems! good luck :D

Something to keep in mind is, adding more coolant (in this case oil) will not increase cooling. BTU out must be greater than or equal to BTU in. Adding coolant capacity will take longer to reach a stable temp, and longer to cool down once heated.

The oil in the fast coolers maintains a 10 degree cooler temp when compared to the oil in the transmission itself at any given time. With the additional surface area and alluminum the btu out has been increased. The additonal oil is another added benifit in many ways.

(example) If the oil in the transmission is at 200 degree, the oil in the coolers is 190 degree.

It might be easier to jack-up the drivers side of the truck, which, will allow more gear oil into the trans.

The filter is not really that expensive. A member here or on the DTR changed his filter & said the used one was filthy. It seems to work. I believe the housing only adds 8 oz. of fluid.
