I heard back from Cummins. YIKES!

I'm going to ask they're permission to post they're message here.

Long story short, 900-1100 degF PRE turbo but not for an exteded period of time.

Well why did I get this BIG truck and motor if I can't pull with it????????

I can get 900 to 1100 by pulling out of my drive way!

( I personally think somthing is wrong but can't prove it)

I've done that a hundred times, didn't help.

I really watched the temps last night on the way home. I'll say it was 90 degF outside, cruise set at 75 mph in 6th gear.

No trailer of any kind and nothing except the hitch in the bed.

So I was 'empty'. I go up one hill not very steep but a little long

and I easily got 1100+ degF.

I've checked the plumbing a couple of times, the mechanic has done the same.

There isn't really any bugs in the radiator area, a new air cleaner.

I made a fatal mistake last night and told my wife what Cummins said

about 1100 degF max. She laughed and said we're selling the truck

because we can't pull the camper if that is the case.

I got off the interstate last night and went to the bottom of the same hill.

Got going and at the bottom of it I mashed the gas to see just what temps

I could get empty. I'll just say this. It was WELL outside what Cummins

recommends by about 500 degrees. :-(

EMPTY!

This can't be right.

Then I have to question the credentials of the kid working the customer service desk. My truck, box stock, ran 1300 degF pre-turbo EGT when towing, and there are many thousands of trucks like mine out on the highways pulling trailers without pyrometers. Obviously, Cummins knew that the 2nd generation HO was going to run 1300 degF pre-turbo EGT and released it to Dodge for production.

Rusty

Are you SERIOUS! 1300 towing! No way. (just joking)...

I'll contact Geno's and see if they'll send me another gauge and probe

so I can test. Couldn't blame them if they said no but never hurts to

ask.

So I take it no one elses turbo and manifold is purple? hehehehe

I was going to post some pics of mine..... not anymore. hehehehehe

Ever since it was new, mine has run 1 needle width below the 190* mark running empty and 1 needle width above the 190* mark when towing, even in 100*+ ambient temperatures and in the Texas Hill Country. To me, that's normal with a 190* thermostat.

Rusty

Even at 90-100 degree outside temperature my temperature guage runs the same as Rusty has described here. I am only towing 5-7k and usually have the A/C running as well. If the cooling system is operating correctly and the tow vehicle is being operated within it's design limits, the temperature guage should reflect the thermostat's temperature setting. In this case around 190 degrees should be observed on the temperature guage at all times once full operating temperature has been obtained.

I would definitely suggest removing your radiator and looking for blockage as described in by others who have experienced the same problem.

Good luck,

Chris

I feel I need to say sorry to everyone here. I kind of feel I barged in and took over part of this thread. Was pretty rude. I should have started another thread.

Sorry guys.
