Over the cab running lights - different ones?

I just picked up my Mopar over the cab running lights for my 01. 5'... they are a lot more short and stubby than I had envisioned...



Has anyone put non-Mopar ones on their truck? I have installed the K-mart ones on past trucks, which I like (& $50 cheaper)... but I haven't seen em at K-mart in over a year...



any suggestions?

Sounds like you got the 2003 lights!!!

They are a little smaller then the older style. .



The DC price on the 2003 lights should be around $65

I also have a Big Truck Chrome book full of cab lights and they have a minature set of cab lights for a pick-up, the same big square headed cab lights you see on the big trucks. I think I may buy me about 10 of them and run them all across the top of the cab, like all those big rig show trucks have them. hehe

This has been an ongoing issue for many of us. If you order cab lights from mopar for a 2001. 5, like I and many others did, you get part #82205120. This is pre-2000 model cab lights. Apparently DC had too many of these laying around so they don't sell the actual 2001 aerodynamic style lights that come from the factory, just the older style.



I have yet to install cab lights on mine, until I can find actual 2001 style lights.

Don't give up that easy, you want the lights that are in the kit for the newer trucks. #82207252 The kit is for the 03 and up body, but it's the lights for the 01 and 02 truck. Just don't use the template in that kit, it is real close but not quite dead on. You will also have to get creative with the wiring unless you get the connector out of the other kit (82205120)



The sad part is that they are selling the old lights (01-02) for the new trucks. That would irritate me if the dealer installed the incorrect lights on a new truck. The new lights are very close to the 01-02 lights, the only difference is the new ones have the mounting holes on the front and back where the old ones have them on the side. Small detail, but I think the small details can make or break the way a truck looks.

awh, **** !!!



so your tellin me the stupid dealership sold me the incorrect lights and I now have 15 holes in my roof that will only fit the incorrect size lights (which were a pain to install anyways!)



Do you know if the aerodynamic ones fit the same holes as the bubbly ones I got?



I installed them cause i thought that was the "proper" ones and only because of that. I knew i shoulda gone with my gut and not got hurried into installing them. Would I even have any recourse to b*tch out the dealership for selling me the wrong lights? They are expensive little F ers too...





The problems I ran into (for future searchers) was:



The headliner was a ******* as it had to stay mounted 90% (I have a sunroof).

Getting that stupid wire plugged into my the back of my fuse box was a ******* too. Just push REALLY HARD

But the wost was getting a second person to hold the white plastic inserts with pliers so I could screw in the screws.

Oh, and the "ground screw" shown in the directions doesn't exist... make your own with a self tapping screw



I dunno if i am going to want to rip up the headliner every time a light goes out...



but the sunroof did make the install easier... standing in it

The main holes (7/8) will work fine for the newer lights. If your lucky, the mounting holes will be the same. If your not that lucky, the newer lights should at least cover up the mounting holes from the lights you have now.



I should have warned you to make the holes a RCH smaller than what they say to use. Then those inserts won't move, also if you use a cordless drill, sometimes going fast will keep the insert from spinning. If it does spin with the drill, the inserts are trashed in short order.
