I keep setting an overboost code and I was wondering if anyone could tell me why. I have a stock 01 with a volant intake and no silencer ring.

THANKS

Brian

I bet you are getting a P0234 code, is that the one? I have the same thing. Not sure on your year truck, but on mine the problem is the waste gate actuator diaphragm is leaking. I tested it by unhooking the rubber hose (on mine anyway) from the turbo compressor housing that goes to the waste gate diaphragm and charging it with 20# of air pressure. Sure enough I could hear it hissing from the diaphragm. Haven't replaced it yet, but they do make a replacement kit for them. Hope this helps ya out. :)

i just recently had a guy ask me about why he was seeing more boost than he had ever had.

his is a '01 auto bone stock truck and he said that all of a sudden the truck lost alot of power and he noticed the boost was around 28 now compared to the usual 21.

i checked and found he had the over boost code too.

he had just installed a plow and the low power and high boost issue happened after plowing for 2 days.

i figured the low power was the trans slipping. when i mashed the pedal 2800rpm's and a sloooooow moving speed odometer. trans fluid was just as red/pink as new with no burnt odor

also noticed no whistle in the turbo which made me think of a gate problem.

did your truck loose alot of power when the diagraphm puked ??

low power

Iceman, yes when ever the MAP sensor see's more than around 20psi of boost, the ecm will "de-fuel" making it seem like the power just drops off. If I keep the boost around or under 20, she will go forever. Now if I have my EZ hooked up, things are all right because it has the boost fouler built in that lets it pull hard up to red line. Hope this helps you out. :) gary

I haven't really noticed a loss of power the code just shows up. Will this hurt anything if I leave it for a while. Baby on the way low on funds. Thanks

No, mine has been that way for over a year, figured I would fix it with a new bigger turbo. When I have my ez hooked up, the code goes away since it (the ez) is tricking the ecm about the boost level. Good luck on the new born!! :):)
