2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission overboost/no airconditioning

just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. My airconditioning has quit working compressor clicks on for about 2 sec then off again about every 30 sec. I took it to an auto electric shop who told me it was a kind of limp moad. He reset computer and everything was fine until first time I got into it. air then stopped again. my set up is 98 24v with ez and dd2 I do have a boost elbow, I usually see no more than 28psi on my boost.

the ez is only about 4 months old.

Sounds like the boost fooler function of the EZ isn't working. You do have the MAP sensor cables from the EZ plugged in series with the wiring harness/MAP sensor, right?

yes they are plugged in correctly. I kind of thought it might be the ez but didn't want to send it back again, they were nice enough to replace one for me about 4-5 months ago.

The AC controls to the clutch cycling solenoid do go through the PCM. Of all the PCM inputs listed for diesel engines, the only one I see that might shut the AC down would be the APPS(wide open throttle). My manual (99) doesn't show a MAP input to the PCM? bg

ditto w/Forrest. I have the same truck, '98 24V



After six years of use, it had lost about 6-8 oz of freon. I put in a partial shot from a 12 oz can and QUIT as soon as the air started getting cold.



OAT 105* Humidity below 10%



Fan high: 85* in 10 sec, 65* 1-2 minutes, 52* 3-4 minutes

on the highway it gets down to 48*-52*



Fan medium: will discharge 45*-50*



Fan on low: will discharge 32-33* air.



And this is with a condensor that has 25% of its' fins laid over flat from unthinking car washer types...



Working with a thin knife takes a long time to straighten them things back out. When I started on it, about 40% of the condensor surface was flattened out. :-{}

I chased my low refrigerant problem for a month before I figured out it was the evaporator core!



it's crispy cold now though!

well I just got back from the airconditioning shop they tell me my coolant is good all presures check out ok. they want me to go back to the electric shop?

I bypassed my computer so that the AC is controlled by the dash switch, and the pressure switches ONLY... no computer control.



worth a shot.







BTW, most AC shops charge towards the low side of the acceptable range for liability reasons... I charge to the high side for COLD reasons
