My friend has a 2002 Ram 2500 and it started overcharging, but not continuously. He put a kit in the alternator, but it still overcharges when he gets around 55 mph. It appears to stay steady at idle. Any suggestions. Some have told him that he would have to replace the ECM. Thanks for any help

The alternator charging rate is controlled by the PCM. I am not sure if that is the problem though. Might be time to check connections, grounds, etc.

Does he realize the battery gauge reads volts and not amps? In cold conditions the charging voltage is higher.

I don't think it's a cold weather issue. The weather here in KC is warm now and it only happens after he reaches 55 mph. Why wouldn't the problem also show up at idle speed?

can always add an external voltage regulator from a older dodge and by pass the pcm. It is a simple 2 wire hook up. Do a search or pm me so I can send you the info.

SSolderitch, Thanks, that may be the way to go. My email is -- email address removed --. What year of Dodge had an external regulator?
