Belive it or not, I have several friends who are hard core liberals------that is judging by the positions they take on issues and the comments they make on political subjects
BUT, they all preach the "we shouldn't be "extremist" on either side, i. e. they generally take the extreme left/liberal position on the real issues all the while preaching against extreme positions... ... ... . just like a post above. All the while claiming to be a "moderate" or "neather liberal or conservative" or someother non-sense-- Another example of the way libs will almost NEVER actually admit that they are a liberal at all much less that they are hard core liberal. They nearly always preach the above sermon, and proclaim their non-identity with either side; I guess to hide the shame of being a liberal.
I judge people not be what they say their political id is, but by the positions they take.
If it walks like an extreme liberal, talks like an extreme liberal etc etc, then I am inclined to believe it IS an extreme liberal ----never mind the selfserving denials about it.
ME? yup, after being a registered democrate up to midle 30s, (was it Churchill who said, "if you are not a liberal at 20, you have no heart, but if you are not a conservative by 40, you have no mind"??)I am now proudly a pretty extreme conservative.
You should have seen my neighbors face when after one of his "sermons" on the evils of extreme position, when I told him he sounded like one without the ability to decide where he stood or the courage to stand up firmly for an honestly felt principal.
How can you not feel very strongly about those principals and issues that so strongly relate to the welfare of our country and the future of our kids and grandkids?
After all, its not the the scores of last weeks ball games we are dealing with.
