I have been having problems with the auto transmission overdrive not kicking in all the time at about 50MPH (normal) and the converter not locking up when it should. seems that as it gets colder the problems seem to occur. Usually I can just speed up with a lot of throttle to 70 or so and then let off and it shifts to overdrive and the converter locks up soon after.

yea... do a search on "tps clean" that should give ya lots of reading material for the throne heh. .

I had a problem like yours, bought me some radioshak tv tuner cleaner, took the TPS off, hosed er down, and no more probs. . I did an adjustment on mine also, I can go into detail, or its posted on here somewhere. .

good luck

As the colder winter approaches, the converter lock-up will take longer. There is a oil temperature sender that prevents the torque converter from locking up till the fluid is above 50 degrees.

While the TPS has been a problem with lots of these trucks, y-knot is correct that this may be normal operation. If it's cold enough, the transmission will not shift into overdrive until the fluid is warmed up.

I agree with y-knot and Loren. I 've had the same situation a time or two here in Anchorage when the temp drops down to the cold side. If the transmission only does this when it is cold that points to the fluid temp as given by the above members.
