Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) overdrive lock-up spring was broken!

One of our techs was installing my Transgo shift kit today and he noticed that my factory lockup spring for the overdrive was broken and the spring coils had binded together and it was only about half the original height. I'm not even sure how the truck was shifting into overdrive. I had noticed the truck always had a soft shift into OD, but never imagined it had a broken spring.

Which spring was it? if it was the 3-4 accumulator spring, no big deal.

Seems like it was a fairly large spring, about 1. 5" tall and about 1" diameter, but Transgo had sent a replacement for that spring anyway.



I haven't driven the truck yet.

That's the 3-4 accumulator spring. It's pretty common to see it broken with high miles. Make sure he checks the accumulator and the bore for damage.

Well I drove the truck for the first time this morning. Driving around town normal I can't really tell any difference, but it's a LOT better at WOT. It makes a clean crisp shift around 2,900rpms at WOT, it will also downshift at WOT better now, whereas before it would want to stay in OD on the interstate instead of kicking down. The only thing I've noticed is there is a slight delay when you shift it into reverse and it seems to go into reverse softer than it did before. Regardless reverse works so I'm not too concerned with that.
