Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) overdrive missing?

Yesterday my overdrive would not kick in as usual. NowI am running 60 mph @ 2500 RPM. normallyabout 75 @2000 rpm. I cleaned all the commections I could find. Is there a solenoid or something that sends i message to trans? 1994

temp sensor for transmission could be bad. Get a 1000 ohm resistor from Radio Shack and replace sensor with resistor by placing in the plug that usually is plugged on to the sensor. If OD works then sensor is bad. PCM needs to know that trans is up to temp. I think it's 50 degrees and above before trans will shift into OD. Resistor fools PCM into thinking that it's up to temp. Just a cheap way to find out if sensor is bad. Many just leave the resistor in and silicone the plug to water proof it.

Fool temp sensor for sure. I had a flaky one and it caused me all kinds of problems. After that make sure lockup is working with OD button off. This proves that you have voltage to the two coils inside the trans. Then check the coil to make sure it has not opened up. After that if everything checks out OK you need to start looking at tps and kick down cable.



I forgot but first you should check codes and see if you get an error. I think its on off on off on then count the check engine light flashes. They come in short flashes pause then another set and the codes are two digits. If I remember correctly 12 = bats have been disconnected in last 50 key cycles 55 = end of codes and 37= open coil in trans.

Thanks fpr all the suggestions. Cant' seem to locate sensor. Joe G. says in cooler line. can't find. I have pipe coming out of rear of pan, with a two prong plug on that. could it be there?

There are two cooler lines. The forward on is the output. The rear one is the return. They both cross from the driver's side to the passenger's side between the transmission pan and the bell housing where the torque convertor is. They attach to ports in the side of the transmission. The forward one is ahead of the shift lever.

on drivers side look at were the shift linkage is and you will see two hard lines coming out of the body of the trans. Follow those and you will find the sensor and it has two contacts on it. Or if your temp sensor light is not coming on then just unplug what you think it is and the light will come on. It won't hurt to unplug the sensors.
