Anyone else ever noitice this... .



Your cruising up towards 50 MPH or so and go to put her in OD. You press the button and the RPM's jump up a bit before she shifts into OD? This normal??

I haven't noticed it but now I will have to look for it. Could it be the torque converter going out of lockup for the shift
 
I think BarryG is right. I have noticed my tach will increase maybe 150-200 RPM when pressing the OD button and before the trans. engages OD. After the shift, everything is cool

mine does it too....

when i push the od button the rpm's go up and then back down when its done shifting. there are two drops in the rpm's after pushing the button. it unlocks, shifts and locks again???

hope this is normal.

Thanks for the responses guys. OK... so is it OK to shift into OD with your foot on the go pedal or should you take your foot off, press the button and then resume acceleration?

You want to make sure that when you get into OD you have enough rpm's to not lug the engine or be detrimental to the transmission.



I leave mine OUT of OD until I am reasonably sure I am going to be able to maintain 1600 rpm (unloaded) or 1800 rpm (loaded).



Keeps the engine and transmission fluid flow up for lubrication and clutch engagement and that keeps the cooling ability up and it helps keep the torque up as well.

Chris,

You can leave your foot in it when you take off the switch. It will be better than not. If you are up to 50 mph you can do either. Like Bob Weis says keep your rpm's up and it will last alot longer.
