Hey, has anyone put an aftermarket O/D unit on the back of their 518 automatic trans, been toying arround with the idea of a Double Over set up. If so, what kind of increase in mileage did you see, and what kind of life did the O/D unit have? Looking into doing something like this for Fuel MPG's and mainly because the truck doesn't tow too often, maybe 10% of the time. It would be going into a 92 2wd 250 Club Cab, that will soon be a Crew Cab Shorty. Anyone????????

Overdrive

I had a Gear Vendors OD in my 91 3500 for about 8 years and it performed flawlessly. I towed a 9000 lb trailer and it was perfect. Without the trailer it shifts just like a normal trans except it has a higher overdrive. It gave the truck a little needed extra pulling power which was sorely needed in the first gen trucks. You have to want it pretty bad to pay almost 3000 for it. You will never recoop the money in fuel savings. It may have given me an extra couple of miles per gallon but nothing you would notice without keeping very close records. I have since gone to a 2004. 5 and I don't need ANYTHING to assist in towing. It pulled the Siskyou Mtn into Ore with the trailer at 65 in cruise control.
