I was under my truck looking around, only had it a week. Anyway I noticed a line that appeared to go into the side of the injector pump was wet on the end. It was getting a bit dark, and snow was begining to fall, so I did not spend a great deal of time with it. Anyway, I could see it from under the drivers side with my head near the tire. The line appeared to come from the fuel filter and terminated at what I believe to be the pump. It seemed to have a rubber boot where it connected to the pump. Is this where the overflow valve connects? It does not look like the fitting by the same name in my Haynes manual, but the location looked correct.



Anyway, the boot was shiney, and damp with either fuel or oil. Can anyone tell me what this is, and what concern I should have with a leak in this area?



This site is fantastic. I have had great experiences on the Diesel Stop site, but can see that this will equal it, or better it. Just got my TDR info packet in the mail, and am so excited!

Get a good service manual, the Haynes manual does not give you the info that you need all the time. Do a search on service manuals for web sites.

That is not the overflow valve. It's on the engine side of the injection pump about even with the first delivery valve. You can't see it from below. The delivery valves are the six connections in a row that the steel lines to the injectors connect to the top of the injection pump.



There are no hoses that connect to the injection pump. Steel only.



The steel line from the overflow valve is a return line. It connects to a hose. There is also a hose that connects to a steel line that connects to the lift (transfer) pump.



Look at the second post in the thread called "Where Is everything? Easy Diagram Inside" in the forum "First Time Cummins Diesel Owners" to see where all this stuff is.

I looked at the diagram, and that line must be lower then I thought on the engine. I still can not tell from the diagram, may have to wait til I am able to lay under the beast a while longer.

I am not sure what you ment in your second post. Was their a thread you started called more info? I looked under the new cummins owners section, and searched, but did not come up with any specific title called that.



Still can't find it in my manual either.

You may be looking at the return line on the power steering pump. The line could be a little loose or it could be oil residue from the breather tube directly in front of the engine on the drivers side. Crabman's post is on this forum below. bg
