My overhead compass works fine but the thermometer reads 0C at all times. Where is the temp pick up unit located and how do you check it. If the electrical stuff on this truck worked half as good as the engine it would be an awsome rig. Thanks John

If memory serves, the sensor is located on the drivers side, fairly close to the radiator. It is fairly easy to spot, it has a wire going to it and looks alot like a thermometer sensor you would see on an indoor outdoor thermometer. I will look on my truck tomorrow and if I'm wrong I'll edit this post.

Open the hood, look to the right of the radiator mounted on the vertical metal frame. About 2 inches long with a wire attached. Thats it.
Good luck.

My 97 always read 5-6 deg. high all the time. I got no help at all from Dodge, and finally re-located teh sensor. All I did was take it loose, and move it straight UP, to the end of it's wire, & re-attatch it. It was getting "Prop wash" from the fan, and when the engine warmed up, it read high. Now it's pretty accuate, compared to most bank thermometers... ... ... DDG

Mine has worked fine for 3-1/2 years but is now off about 3 deg's. It will pick up eng temp when setting still. mine is mounted on the right of the rad just above bumper open the hood to see it little black probe.

MY 97 had a problem with thermometer too. Compass read fine, but every now and then the temp. would fluctuate from -10 degrees to 115 degrees finally to say SC. Dealer replaced sensor on core support first, then the display unit, finally traced wires to find the wire was pinched between frame and body. Repaired wire and works fine. Service manual says OC is open circuit, and SC is short circuit. Just in case you didn't know. Good luck!!

This is really a chassis issue, so I'm filing it over there where it'll be on topic for future reference. Thanks, guys, for the great posts and answers.

PW - you know you could make the description on topics a little clearer. Check out the Ford Site. There's not confusion on where to post. I'm not mentally challenged but I can't figure out where to post a topic. Thanks!

Had my new truck for about a week, and was ready to take it back to the dealer to get the temp guage fixed. It was reading 10 to 70 degrees high. Then I took off the plow. Worked much better. At least I figured it out before I made a fool of myself at the dealer.
